Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads are used to provide a warm lying area for small animals and are particularly important for piglets and other animals born without good body tempera-
®
ture regulation or hair-coat protection.
Large animals or careless handling can damage power supply cords and heat pads. Such damage may cause a life-threatening electric shock hazard and may start
a fire if combustible material is present winthin a distance of 5 cm (0.05m). Do not permit access by adult animals to the power cords or heat pads. Installation and
disconnection shall be in accordance with local wiring rules and electrical codes.
DO NOT COVER. RISK OF FIRE, FLAMMABLE MATERIALS. Do not carry heat pads by their power supply cords. Do not use heat pads
in the presence of combustible materials. Always disconnect power while washing heat pads. The power supply cord cannot be replaced.
If damage to the heat pad or cord is detected, remove the heat pad from service immediately and contact Osborne Industries, Inc.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, unless

INSTALLATION:
Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads must be anchored in a dry, well-drained location us-
®
ing the corresponding Built-In frame. Information on the available Built-In frames can
be obtained by contacting Osborne Customer Service. Drilling holes anywhere on the
heat pad surface could damage the heater element.
Always install the heat pad so that the power cords are not accessible to the animals.
A conduit such as the Osborne Cord Protector, plastic pipe, or electrical conduit shall
be used. Damage to the cords caused by insufficient protection is not covered by war-
ranty and may result in hazardous electric shock.

The Built-In frames are attached around the outer edge of the heat pad and then the
entire assembly is inserted into the flooring section properly designated for the Built-In
heat pad assembly. The figure at left shows a typical Built-In installation.
OPERATION:
Osborne Stanfield
Heat Pads do not use an internal thermostat. At full rated input
®
voltage, they operate at a fixed temperature rise above the ambient air temperature
which is often adequate if room temperature is 65-70 °F (18-21 °C) for piglets and
similar small animals. For complete year-round control of heat pad temperature and
best efficiency, control power and temperature with an Osborne Heat Pad Control.
INSTALLATION:
If non-use of the pad is observed, check the following:
A. Is electrical power applied to the pad? Placing the palm of the hand on the
pad for several seconds results in a "warm" feeling if power is applied.
B. If the heat pad is warm, but animals are not using it, check for drafts in the
area compared to the area where the animals do lay. Change ventilation to
reduce the draft to acceptable levels.
C. If the animals seem restless, lie next to heat pad, but not on it, or use it only
intermittently, it may be too warm. Reduce air temperature or add controls or
reduce setting of controls until animals rest comfortably again.
Always keep the heat pad clean and dry for longest life and best performance.
Never take chances. Always protect the heat pad from adult animals and
anchor it so that it cannot be moved. Protect power cords from both adult and

or exceed UL, CSA, CE, IEC, and PSE standards for safe
