• Observe the compressed air quality as specified in the
technical data
• Observe the permissible operating pressure
6.2
Foreseeable misuse
Risk of injury!
Misuse may result in injury or damage.
f The product must be used exclusively as intended.
Foreseeable misuse includes:
• Use in non-industrial applications/residential areas
• Use outside of the product limits defined in the technical
data
• Unauthorised modifications
• Bypassing the safety function
• Use in reversible operation (reversing of supply and
exhaust air)
• Vacuum operation
6.3 Responsibilities of the system owner
f Observe the information on assembly and operating con-
ditions listed in the operating instructions or the data sheet.
f Comply with the further requirements of ISO 13849 (e. g.,
CCF, DC, PL
, software) if you intend to use the product in
r
higher categories (2 to 4).
f Make sure that the maximum number of switching cycles
(B
) within the service life T
10D
ISO 13849-1 = 20 years) is not exceeded. If the expected
number of switching cycles for a component exceeds the
B
value during its period of use, suitable exchange in-
10D
tervals have to be specified.
f Switch the valve at least once a month to ensure its
proper function.
f Make sure that the fundamental and proven safety
principles in accordance with ISO 13849 for implementation
and operation of the component are complied with.
f Make sure that the permissible switch-on and switch-
off pulses for feedback-free operation of the pneumatic
devices are observed.
f If you operate the DM
an electric two-hand control, it must comply with the
standard EN 574. Selection and installation of this two-
hand control must take place in accordance with the
manufacturer's specifications.
6.4 Safety instructions
f When implementing safety measures against switch-off
surges, check whether these extend the valve's switch-
off time.
f If required, determine the run-on time (possible "reach into
hazard area") of a machine equipped with DM valves and a
plug at connection "3" of the valve or at the switching point
of the machine's overrun monitoring (if available).
f Check if the valve's electrical connection cables have to
be routed separately.
f In case of high levels of machine vibrations, use appropri-
ate vibration-reducing elements when mounting the valve.
f Avoid overvoltages as these result in solenoid burnout.
2®
The DM
D valves come with a special silencer that
complies with the requirements of ISO 13849 and which
features a design that largely prevents clogging.
2®
f Only use DM
D valves with a properly mounted silencer
f Make sure that the silencer's flow capacity is not
restricted as this would impair valve performance.
f If required, replace the silencer exclusively with a
corresponding ROSS model

7 Assembly and Installation
Risk of injury due to installation whilst pressurised or with
live parts!
Installation whilst pressurised or with electrical power switched on can
result in injuries due to sudden pressure build-up or electric shock.
f De-energise and de-pressurise the relevant system parts before
installing the valves.
f Secure the system to prevent it being switched back on again.
ATTENTION
Destruction of components!
Chemical substances can damage the surface, the markings and the
seals of the device.
f Install the valve such that it is protected against the effects of
chemicals.
Damage to the device through storage at incorrect temperatures!
The storage temperature represents the permissible ambient tem-
perature and depends on the type of valve in question.
f Observe the temperature information in chapter „Technical Data".
7.1 Connecting the mechanics
The double valves described in these operating instruc-
tions may only be installed by a qualified, trained profes-
sional. The product may only be used within the scope
of the "intended use" as described in these operating in-
structions. The cables and cable connections as well as
the electrical control for the double valves must comply
with the applicable safety regulations.
7.2 Connecting the pneumatics and the electrics
Pneumatic connections 1 + 2 can be used on both sides.
The delivery contents include two blanking plugs for un-
used connections.
f Connect the compressed air supply to connection 1 and
the load to connection 2 (see Fig. 1).
Connection 3 is equipped with a silencer at the factory
2®
with type DM
D.
f Connect the electrics in accordance with Fig. 2 and 3.
Sockets in accordance with EN 175301-803 form A
(previously DIN 43650, form A) for pilots a, b and reset
have to be ordered separately. The pressure switch in-
cludes a socket.
8 Commissioning and Operation
Damage to health due to loud noise!
Levels above 70 dB(A) may lead to damage to health!
f Always wear ear protectors when working on the product.
Before commissioning, the installation has to be carefully
inspected by a qualified, trained professional.
f Make sure that the technical data matches the operating
criteria of the machine and/or the pneumatic system.
f Always set the compressed air supply to a level that
ensures that the minimum operating pressure is
adhered to (see section „Technical Data").
The reset valve may only be actuated by a pulse
(electrical, manual, or pneumatic) of max. 3 seconds and
with solenoids a + b switched off.
For pneumatic resets, the reset pressure must be higher than
or equal to the operating pressure!
