Important Safeguards and Warnings
WARNING: Shock and fire hazard
If the HEATITMAT System is damaged or not installed properly, fire or shock could occur resulting in serious
personal injuries or damage to property. You must carefully follow the warnings and instructions contained in
this manual.
The HEATIT thermostat is recommended.
It is important that this equipment is installed only by qualified electricians who are familiar with the proper
sizing, installation, construction and operation of floor warming system and the hazards involved. The installation
must comply with all national and local electrical codes. If you are unfamiliar with these requirements, contact a
electrician.
The HEATITMAT System is designed for under floor heating purposes only. Be sure that the floor is not
penetrated by nails, screws, or similar devices that can cause damage on first installation or during subsequent
floor repairs in the future.
If the HEATITMAT System is damaged, it must be replaced. Do not attempt to splice or repair any part of the
system
The installation of this heating product shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and in
accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 or the National Electrical Code (US) whichever is applicable,
and as permitted by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Caution should be taken to guard against risk of electric shock, fire and bodily injury during the installation of
this equipment.
Mesh should be connected to a dedicated electrical circuit.
It is mandatory to install a Class "A" GFCI or GFCI circuit breaker with each HEATITMAT installation.
DO NOT energize the mat before installation as it will cause overheating or damage to the cable.
This equipment shall be installed only by qualified personnel who are familiar with the construction and
operation of the apparatus and risks involved.
Connect mats to rated voltage only.
Use only copper supply wires. Be sure to size for conductors properly to carry the rated amperage.
DO NOT USE sharp tools or power tools to clean grout lines.
Indicate on the electrical panel which circuit is used for the HEATITMAT System.
Subfloor must be prepared in accordance with ANSI specifications.
The heating wire cannot be overlapped, crossed, cut, shortened or modified.
DO NOT allow the cold lead or thermostat sensor to cross or overlap the heating cable.
All cables must be completely embedded into a cement based mortar including the cold lead, cold lead
Splice, heating cable, heating cable tail splice and thermostat sensor with the wire lead.
DO NOT cut the yellow heating cable or attempt to alter the length in any way.
The heating wire should be spaced at least 0.5 in (13 mm) from any exposed combustible surface and should
ever be installed in / on / under walls or in closets.
