CU-3LED
Order No. 38.3490
LED Module Controller
GB
Please read these operating instructions care-
fully prior to operation and keep them for later
use.
1 Applications
The CU-3LED is used for controlling LED mod -
ules, e. g. the LEDS-5... series by MONACOR. It
is ideally suited for controlling three-coloured
RGB LED modules, however, it can also be used
for controlling any single-coloured LED modules
or LED lights with a supply voltage of 10 – 24 V .
A pulse-width modulation will ensure a uniform
brightness control. The controller allows to man -
ually adjust the brightness for each of the three
outputs in 256 steps. In addition, 8 light changing
programmes are available.
2 Important Notes
The unit corresponds to all required directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING Please note that fast changes in
lighting, e. g. flashing light, may
trigger epileptic seizures with
photosensitive persons or per-
sons with epilepsy!
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
G
it against humidity and heat (admissible am-
bient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never
G
use water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no lia-
G
bility for any resulting personal damage or ma-
terial damage will be accepted if the unit is
used for other purposes than originally intend -
ed, if it is not correctly connected or operated,
if it is overloaded or not repaired in an expert
way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harm-
ful to the environment.
3 Setting the Controller into Operation
To facilitate handling, all terminals can be dis-
connected from their plug-in connections.
1) Connect the LED modules to the terminals
(2 – 5). Observe the correct polarity:
+COM
= positive terminals
RED
= negative terminal, red
GREEN = negative terminal, green
BLUE
= negative terminal, blue
All +COM terminals are internally connected to
each other. The terminals GREEN and BLUE
are available twice. Thus, it is also possible to
connect the RGB modules via the two termi-
nals +COM / RED (2) and GREEN / BLUE (3).
The total of currents of all LED modules
connected must not exceed 10 A!
2) Connect a regulated power supply unit with an
output voltage suitable for the LED modules
used and a sufficient output power to the ter-
minals POWER (1). (For 12 V LED modules,
the power supply unit PSS-5000 or PS-2012/10
by MONACOR, for example, is suited.)
Observe the correct polarity! The controller
may be damaged if the terminals are confused.

4 Operation
When the supply voltage is applied, the unit is
switched on. The programme selected for the
start will be automatically executed (
4.5).
4.1 Selecting the programme
Each time the button PROGRAM (14) is
pressed, the next programme of the programme
cycle will be executed:
1. manual static brightness adjustment or colour
mix (
chapter 4.4)
2. varying brightness at all outputs
[When the LED (13) is off, it will be possible
to adjust a delay between the outputs by
means of the buttons (7 – 12) resulting in col -
our transitions when RGB modules are used.]
3. varying brightness at the output Red
4. varying brightness at the output Green
5. varying brightness at the output Blue
.
6. varying brightness successively at all outputs
7. switched change between eight colours
(red, yellow, blue, magenta, green, cyan,
orange, pink)*
8. stroboscopic effect with eight colours (red, yel-
low, blue, magenta, green, cyan, orange,
pink)*
9. stroboscopic effect with three colours (red,
green, blue)
*the mixed colours will result when RGB mod-
ules are used
4.2 Changing the programme speed
The speed at which the programmes 2 – 9 are
executed is adjustable in 256 steps.
1) If required, press the button MODE (15) so
that the LED (13) will be on.
2) Use the button SPEED to increase (7) or de-
crease (8) the speed. When the button is kept
pressed, the value will change continuously.
It is also possible to directly select the high-
est speed with the button (9) or the lowest
speed with the button (10).

4.3 Stopping the programme / Blackout
Use the button STOP/ BLACKOUT (16) to stop
the current programme [the LED (13) will flash
chapter
slowly] or to continue. When the LED (13) is on
[switchable with the button MODE (15)], the light
will be switched off (Blackout) in addition. The
LED (13) will flash rapidly.

4.4 Manual adjustment

When the programme number 1 is selected, the
brightness for the outputs Red, Green, and Blue
can be manually adjusted; with RGB modules,
any mixed colours are adjustable in this case.
For this purpose, the LED (13) must be off
[switch over with the button MODE (15), if re-
quired]. Increase the brightness for the corre -
sponding output with one of the upper buttons
(7, 9, 11) or decrease it with one of the lower
buttons (8, 10, 12). When the button is kept
pressed, the value will change continuously. The
indicator LEDs (6) will show the corresponding
brightness.
To directly call the programme number 1, press
the button (11) when the LED (13) is on [switch
over with the button MODE (15), if required].
4.5 Defining the start programme
To define the programme which will be active
after switching on the power supply, select this
programme (
chapter 4.1) and, when the LED
(13) is on [switch over with the button MODE
(15), if required], keep the button (12) pressed
for at least one second.
