Always ensure that the mains supply is disconnected before and during
installation,
maintenance,
accessories.
1. General information
The luminaire is designed for indoor and outdoor use operating on a
mains supply of 240V, 50Hz (unless otherwise stated) mains current
0.35A. Nominal power factor 0.4. Lamp type 18 watts. B.C. Sox (low
pressure sodium lamp).
Classification class 1 (the luminaire must be earthed) Ingress
protection IP.65 dustproof and jetproof. Maximum ambient temperature
(ta) 40°C
2. Mounting positions
Figure 1A wall mounted with the main axis of body vertical and the
lampholder at the top of the body.
Figure 1B ceiling mounted horizontally or on a sloping up to an angle
of 30° as shown.
3. Installation
a) Release cover fixing screws with allen key provided.
b) Loosen gear tray/reflector screw and slide out gear tray.
c) Remove 20mm dia. knockout for selected cable entry position
position (gland provided suitable for cable 4mm to 7mm sheath
diameters).
Note: To maintain the I.P. rating, the use of sealing washers is
recommended, for conduit entry and B.E.S.A. box fixing. Sealing
washers are provided with fixing screws.
d) Fix bulkhead body to mounting surface with screws and washers
provided.
e) Connect mains cable to 3-way terminal block socket within the
body housing.

Neutral
- Blue to terminal N
Earth
- Green/yellow to terminal
Note: If it is intended to use mineral cable, the cable manufacturer
should be consulted regarding the possible need to use voltage
surge suppressors.
f) Slide gear tray back into position engaging the plug with the socket.
Tighten fixing screw, fit lamp support wire into the slots on the gear
tray and insert lamp into the B.C. lampholder.
g) Replace cover and tightened cover screws.
4. Lamp disposal
Low pressure sodium lamps must be broken with precautions being
taken against the risk of fire, and flying glass or other fragments.
The lamps (not more than 20 at a time) should be broken into small
pieces in a large dry container, in a dry atmosphere. The container
when 1⁄4 full, should be filled with water. The lamp disposer must stand
back (e.g. use a hose), when filling the container with water. after a few
minutes, the metallic sodium will be inactive and the debris may be
disposed of conventionally.
Note: Should the lamp arrive damaged with the fitting, the fitting
should be returned to RS and the lamp disposed of as per
above instructions. UNDER NO ACCOUNT SHOULD THE
DAMAGED LAMP BE RETURNED TO RS COMPONENTS BY
POST.

A replacement 18 watt sox low pressure sodium lamp is available, refer
to RS stock no. 381-8539.
