Digital Circuit Breaker Finder
and Socket Tester
The task of locating AC circuits is now made quick and easy. No more guessing or
trial and error when it comes to locating the correct circuit breaker or fuse supplying
power to an AC socket or lighting fixture*. Common wiring faults are instantly
identified with the integrated socket tester.
*Requires optional test lead set (61-184EU).
WARNING:
For indoor use only.
Use extreme care when working around AC circuits, severe shock hazards
exist. Familiarize yourself with these instructions prior to use and always
check that the transmitter and receiver are operating properly before using
on live circuits. Always verify the integrity of the 13A fuse located inside the
plug top which is attached to the supplied UK power cord. If used on a circuit
controlled by a dimmer, turn the dimmer to the highest on position. Do not
use in cardiac care areas.
WARNING: This equipment will not detect a Neutral / Earth reversed
condition. The "Socket Tester" feature was designed for use on UK
wiring systems that typically have fixed polarity. Additional care
must therefore be taken when using the supplied European style
power cord because polarity is determined by the orientation of
the 2-pin Euro plug in the wall outlet being tested. The transmitter's
LEDs may not therefore indicate the actual wiring configuration!
Features:
Red LED
• Automatically and quickly finds correct breaker or fuse
Green LED
• Optional test lead set available for use at bare wires
and light fixtures (61-184EU)
• Non-contact voltage sensor for 80-300VAC
• Transmitter works on 230VAC circuits
• Socket tester feature verifies wiring configuration
• Low battery detection
OPERATION:
Self-Test
Push the receiver's power switch forward to the ON position. The unit will perform a self-test to ensure proper operation.
Low Battery Detection
After performing the self-test the receiver will verify the voltage of the 9VDC battery. If the battery voltage is below 7.3 volts, the
receiver will beep three times and turn itself off. Remove the old battery, and replace it with a standard 9VDC battery.
Idle Mode
Provided the battery is good, the receiver will enter the idle mode. Both the receiver's LEDs will remain on and the receiver will
continually check for any active signals.
Non-Contact Voltage Test
Point the receiver's nose towards a live AC socket or power cord. Once an AC Voltage field of > 50V is sensed, the receiver will
switch to Voltage Sensor mode. The red LED remains lit and the receiver will audibly beep. The beeping speed will increase when
the receiver is moved closer to the AC power source, and slows when the receiver is moved further away. Once the receiver
senses a signal from the transmitter, it will switch to the circuit identifier mode. The circuit identifier mode is indicated by a
steady green LED. To leave this mode and use the receiver for AC Voltage detection, turn the power switch off, then on again.

Locating a Circuit Breaker or Fuse:
1. Plug the IEC-320 end of the supplied mains cord into the transmitter.
2. Plug the other end of the mains cord into the AC socket. Go to the circuit breaker
panel or consumer unit.
3. Turn the receiver on, and allow it to complete its self-test away from power.
4. Place the flat surface of the tapered end of the receiver directly onto the circuit
breaker or fuse as shown in Fig A. Depending on the breaker type, the receiver may
have to be turned 90° in order to obtain an accurate reading.
5. Move the receiver down each side of the panel passing over each breaker or fuse.
This will calibrate the receiver to the signal from the transmitter.
6. Move the receiver down each side once more. On the second pass, the receiver will
continually beep and the green LED will flash when positioned over the correct circuit breaker i.e. the breaker powering the
transmitter. Some signals will be detected on the first pass. Note: In certain circumstances, it may be difficult to identify
the correct breaker due to wire routing in the panel. If adjacent breakers cause the receiver to beep continually, remove the

panel cover (whilst observing safe working practices) and hold the tapered end of the receiver against the wires leading to

2. Remove the ceiling rose or light fixture cover.
3. Plug the 61-184EU test lead set (not included) into the transmitter. Using the crocodile clips supplied with the 61-184EU,
connect the brown test lead to the light fixture's live contact, the blue to neutral and the green to earth.

4. Turn the electrical supply to the light fixture back on.
5. If the light fixture is controlled by a wall switch, make sure the wall switch is ON.
6. Follow the procedure described in Locating a Circuit Breaker or Fuse steps 3 through 7.
Receiver Auto Power Off:
If the receiver is left on and not utilized for 10 minutes (no energised AC circuit or transmitter signals are detected), it will
automatically shut down to conserve its battery life.
Battery Replacement:
Remove battery cover. Insert new 9V battery into battery compartment and re-install battery cover.
Checking Sockets for Correct Wiring:
Power Switch
1. Plug the IEC-320 end of the supplied mains cord into the transmitter.
2. Always test the transmitter's socket test function by plugging the other end of the mains cord into a known live socket before
and after use. All three LED's on the transmitter should light indicating a correctly wired live socket.
3. Plug the mains cord into the live socket you wish to test. The three LED lamps on the transmitter will indicate the wiring
configuration of the socket. The label on the transmitter provides a key to various fault conditions.
4. If power to the socket is switched off, all three LED's will go out.
