SWING AWAY SAFETY GUARD
DESCRIPTION
Palmgren Swing Away Safety Guard is made of cast iron and scratch
resistant polycarbonate visor. Visor protects operator from contact
with spindle, drill chuck, cutting bit and chips before, during and after
the cutting operation. Guard easily swings out and away, allowing
quick tool changes. Guard is completely adjustable for use on many
makes of drill presses and milling machines.
UNPACKING
Check for shipping damage. If damage has occurred, a claim must be
filed with the carrier. Check for completeness. Immediately report
missing parts to dealer.

BE PREPARED FOR JOB
1. Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties,
rings, bracelets or other jewelry which may get caught in moving
parts of machine.
Read carefully and follow all safety rules and operating instructions before first use of this product.

2. Wear protective hair covering to con tain long hair.
3. Wear safety shoes with non-slip soles.
4. Wear safety glasses complying with United States ANSI Z87.1
Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They are not
safety glasses.
5. Wear face mask or dust mask if oper ation is dusty.
6. Be alert and think clearly. Never oper ate power tools when tired,
intoxicat ed or when taking medications that cause drowsiness.
INSTALLATION
Refer Figures 1, 2 and 3.
On the right side of the machine:
1. Locate a flat surface of approximately 2 x 3" and layout the brack-
et mounting holes as shown in Figure 2. Mounting area should be
approximately 6" behind the machine spindle.
2. Drill two 6.7mm (17/64") holes and tap holes to 8-1.25mm thread.
3. Insert vertical support (A) into bracket assembly (C). Attach brack-
et assembly to machine using two M8 x 20 socket head bolts.
4. Insert 5 x 6mm pin and locking handle into support (Fig. 3, Ref.
Nos. 3, 4 and 5).
5. Attach arm (F) to vertical support with hex nut and lock washer.
6. Insert 5 x 15mm pin and knob into bracket (Fig. 3, Ref. Nos. 7, 15
and 16).
7. Attach guard assembly (B) to arm using hex nut and lock washer.
OPERATION
Refer Figure 3.
1. Use the locking handle (Ref. No. 5) to adjust the vertical position
of the guard.
2. Loosen knob (Ref. No. 15) to swing guard away from cutting oper-
ation. Tighten knob to secure guard in position.
