The Smoke Extractor is an interesting
attachment for the HP Preheating Furnaces,
although
it
may
manufacturers' furnaces. The device removes
furnace gases produced in the muffle continuously
and smoothly.
FURNACE INSTALLATION
1. Choose a well ventilated location in the lab for
the Furnace-Extractor. Remember that the
Extractor sweeps away smoke generated inside
the muffle, but does not purify it. The ideal
location would be under an extractor hood with
an exterior outlet.
2. When coupling the Extractor to one of the
MESTRA HP furnaces, insert the Extractor inlet
into the flue tube at the rear of the Furnace, and
then tighten the fastening screw on the
Extractor inlet.
3. If the Extractor is connected to a non-MESTRA
Furnace, first check that the diameter of the
Furnace flue tube does not exceed 38 mm, and
then proceed as in the previous point. If there is
a great difference between the Extractor inlet
and the Furnace flue tube, a better fit can be
obtained by rolling up a piece of textile thermal
insulation on the Furnace flue tube (1200 ºC
minimum temperature).
4. The smoke Extractor has a hose for water
drainage, which could appear inside the
Extractor
due
collection receptacle near the Extractor, and
position the end of the hose inside.
5. Mestra HP-Furnaces have a socket on the left-
hand side of each Furnace. If the extractor is
connected to this socket, the extractor runs
from 75 ºC until the furnace reaches 850 ºC, or
the
second
heating
continuous operation, the extractor must be
hooked up to a separate connection.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
1. Empty the receptacle for condensed liquids on
a regular basis.
2. Clean the whole Extractor periodically using a
wet cloth and soapy water. Use a disposable
cellulose sheet to clean wax or charcoal inside
the Extractor.
3. If the drainage hose is blocked, clean it out
using a cylindrical object of suitable diameter
with a blunt edge.

PRECAUTIONS
♦ Working temperature could be high, and so you
other
must not touch the unit if you are not sure that it
is cold.
♦ If the Extractor is connected to a socket other
than the Furnace socket, make sure this is
earthed.
♦ During cleaning and maintenance operations,
disconnect the Extractor from the mains.
♦ The Extractor does not have a fuse or a mains
switch, and this should be borne in mind when
connecting it to a switch other than on the
Mestra Furnace.
♦ Make sure the Extractor outlet is placed at a
well-ventilated location, since gases produced
inside the muffle can be toxic. Never inhale
these gases.
♦ Do not place any object near the Extractor air
inlet located on the lower section. Leave at
least 15 cm between this inlet and the nearest
object.
