Quick Start Guide
Sump Pump
(Pump pictured is typical)
YOU wILL NEEd:
Tools:
Pipe wrench, Strap Wrench, or Slip-Joint Pliers.
Hacksaw
Screw Driver
File or Sandpaper
Materials:
1-1/4" or 1-1/2" ABS or PVC Pipe
ABS or PVC Cement (to match the pipe)
Threaded Adapter (Pipe to Pump)
Check Valve – Purchase either an FP0026-10 check valve
(for solid pipe install) or FP0026-6D check valve (for hose
install). If you install a check valve in the discharge line,
you will need to drill a 1/8" anti-airlock hole in the
discharge pipe just above where the pipe threads into the
pump discharge port.
Unless otherwise noted, models with a tethered float switch
require a sump pit at least 14" in diameter.
Models with a vertical float switch require a sump pit at least
10" in diameter.

COMPLETE PLUMBING.
Finish installing the necessary plumbing. Follow the glue

SUMP REQUIREMENTS.
Pit must be covered. It is usually 10-18" in diameter and
14-18" deep. See pump owner's manual for pit size needed.
Install on a hard surface: brick, cement, or concrete block;
no sand, clay, or gravel.
5
PLUG IN PUMP.
Plug the pump into a 15-amp circuit (20A for 1/2 HP).
The circuit should be GFCI protected and dedicated to the
6965-0315
sump pump.
Read your manual for installation, operation, and safety information.
This guide neither supplements nor replaces the Owner's Manual.

dISCHARGE PLUMBING.
Install the discharge plumbing and check valve on the pump:
A. Use PTFE pipe thread sealant tape - NOT pipe joint
compound.
B. Tighten the pipe into the pump.
C. Install the check valve as close to the pump as possible.
D. If your check valve does not have an anti-airlock hole, drill
one as shown. The hole must be inside the sump.
6
CHECK OPERATION.
Check the pump's operation by filling the sump with water
until the pump starts. Let it run until it has pumped down the
sump and stopped. Replace the sump cover.

INSERT PUMP.
Place the pump in the sump; make sure that nothing interferes
with switch operation (tethered switch shown). Run the power
cord and piggyback switch cord through the correct hole in
the sump pit cover.
NOTE:
Plastic pipe glue is extremely flammable.
Follow the glue manufacturer's instructions carefully if you
are using glued plastic pipe for the discharge pipe.
Install in compliance with all applicable laws, codes, and
ordinances. Non-compliance may cause product failure,
property damage, and/or personal injury.
The pump should start and stop at the water levels shown
below. See your pump owner's manual to determine the
pumping range for your pump.
Tethered switch models will be several inches underwater
before the pump starts.
Do not use an extension cord with a sump pump.
Regularly inspect pump inlet and clean away any debris.
