8 - SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The devices 897.101 and 897.121 "WIDE EYE" are:
- an anchor device with one stationary point and with the need for a structural
anchor or fixing element to fix it to the structure, intended to be used in
personal fall protection systems;
- parts of a system protecting/preventing against impact caused by fall from a
height;
- tested according to EN 795:2012 type A.
Fig. 1 – Example of installation with a bolt – Keep in mind to calculate the
adequate installation parameters (e.g. bolt class, materials, type of thread and
nut).
Fig. 2 – Example of installation with a plug – Pay great care in checking the
hole diameter, length and direction. Keep in mind to calculate the adequate
installation parameters (e.g. plug type, distance between holes).
Fig. 3 – Testing performances – The maximum displacement and maximum
force transmitted measured during testing according to EN795:2012 type A are
23mm and 9,5kN, these values can vary depending on the type of installation
and the structure.
Fig. 4 – Examples of correct use – This device can be employed to connect
a line or other equipment.
Fig. 5 – Installation recommendations – The installation of this device must
be done taking into account the material of the structure and following an
adequate procedure.
Compatibility – This device has been designed to be used:-with connectors
according to EN362 and/or EN12275;-with a fixing element through the hole
(A), version 897.101 thread M10 and version 897.121 thread M12.
Checks before and after use - Before and after use, make sure that the
device is in an efficient condition and that it is working properly, in particular,
check that:
- it is suitable for the intended use;
- has not been mechanically deformed;
- does not show cracks, wear, corrosion and oxidation;
Before use and in a position that is completely safe, on each occasion check
that the device holds correctly by putting your weight on it.
Important:
- avoid direct connections with textile devices;
- it is recommended to mark the anchor device with the date of the last
inspection carried out;
- always read the information supplied by the manufacturer of the fixing system
to the structure;
- this device should only be used as protective equipment against falls from a

height and not to lift materials;
- the installation must be carried out by competent persons and properly
checked by means of calculations or tests;
- if the marking of the anchor device is not visible after installation, it must be
marked on a sign to be applied in the immediate vicinity;
- consider the suitability of the structure according to the load transmitted by the
device during use and its direction of application, which varies according to
the type of installation;
- when used as anchor device in a fall arrest system, the user has to be
equipped with a means of limiting the dynamic forces exerted on the user
during the arrest of a fall to a maximum of 6 kN.
Warning:
- the fixing system, the structure, or other devices made of different materials,
can generate galvanic corrosion;
- poor choice of components or improper installation can greatly reduce this
device performances, up to nullifying them;
- tightening harder than required or hammering during installation, and hard
falls during use, lead to the retirement of the device;
- this device life is greatly reduced when installation is performed in
environments with evidence or suspect of SSC (e.g. high concentration of
chloride, temperature above 30°C, low relative humidity, next to pools or up
to 30 km from the coast of the sea, not washed by rain, high calcium content
in rocks);
- connected devices:
-must not interfere with each other;
-must be free to move and position themselves in the foreseeable
direction of load application.
Note: when set as required by EN 795, the installer of the anchorage devices
must issue to the customer the installation documentation, signed by the
same, containing at least the following information: address and location of
the installation, the name and address of the company that performed the
installation, the name of the person in charge of the installation, the identification
of the anchoring device, methods and data relating to the fixing system, the
schematic plan of installation to display to the users. This documentation must
be kept by the purchaser for recording subsequent inspections of the anchor
device. See EN795 for better reference.
