Installation manual
Description
Sensus PulseRF-A3 is a radio transponder with a fixed cable
connection to a HRI via a cable which is compatible with a
wide range of Sensus meters. It can be retrofitted to meters
equipped with a metal plate on the pointer without breaking
the meter seal.
1 Delivery parts
Sensus PulseRF-A3 with wall adapter for the radio transponder,
2 screws and wall plugs, adapter ring, meter lid, 2 screws, 2
screw seals, 1 adhesive seal
Installation:
Just before mounting the HRI on the meter
it is essential to remove the aluminium foil at
the bottom side. A screwdriver Torx (T8) is
recommended.
2 Meters with plastic register
(mounting holes in plastic head)
Change the lids and put the HRI on the meter, so that the
two pins on top of the register fit exactly into the holes at the
bottom of the HRI. Fit the two screws. For tamper protection fit
the plastic seals on top of the screws. The adapter and two of
the screws are not used for this register type.
3 Meter with glass-copper register
First exchange the lids (ref. picture 2). Fit the adapter ring
on the top of the meter register and turn it until it drops into
place. Push and turn the adapter ring clockwise until the lever
clicks into place. Secure the adapter ring with one of the three
delivered screws. If required fit the adhesive seal. Mount the
HRI with the two enclosed screws on the adapter ring. Secure
the screws by pushing in the enclosed plastic covers. To
remove the HRI lift the lever and rotate anticlockwise.
Communication
The current SensusRF protocol with the SensusREAD tool
and SIRT perform this function to configure and also read the
Sensus PulseRF.
Sensus PulseRF is also supported by the Fixed Radio Network
Software IRIS and IRISlite.
Configuration
The module can be configured using SensusRF radio with
SIRT and configuration software.

Equipment
1. Radio transponder Sensus PulseRF
2. Wall holder
85 mm
For the SensusRF radio module choose a position which
affects the radio signal as little as possible. Metal, soil and
water (e.g. power supply line or a water pipe) have a negative
impact on the radio transmission. The effect of plastic is lower
than concrete or wood. Try to avoid a position close to these
materials. In pits the transponder must be mounted above the
water line and at a minimum distance of 200 mm to metal lid
covers. Transponders should not be closer together than 80
cm. Test the best position before final installation.
Radio range
The typical distance between transponder and read-out
device is 500m@868MHz (350m@433MHz) in line of sight.
Poor installation places, obstacles in the radio line-of-sight
and other influences like electrical interference or metal
devices can reduce the radio range or even make radio reads
impossible. From buildings to outside a typical range is 100 to
200 metres, while in an extreme case the reading range in a
pit might be less than 20 metres.
Installation of the wall holder
The wall plate is surface mounted using two
screws. Leave sufficient slack cable and space so
that the transponder can be replaced in the future.
Do not install the transponder upside down!
Fitting / Removing the transponder
To fit the transponder push the rectangular
protrusions on the back into the mating holes in the wall plate
and push down. To remove the transponder, do it vice versa.
