General
The 55 watt SOX Nightwatch low pressure sodium luminaire is a high
efficiency low power consumption light source, environmentally
protected to IP54 making it ideal for illumination of public access areas,
perimeter lighting and general lighting of industrial and commercial
premises.
Mounting
The luminaire should be mounted at a height of approximately 7 metres
to obtain maximum spread of light. As a photocell is to be used ensure
that its operation is not impaired by overhanging objects or other light
sources.
To mount the luminaire:
a) Secure the wall/corner bracket using the wood screws and plastic
wall plugs supplied.
b) Locate the luminaire on the bracket spigot ensuring it is fully
inserted into the luminaire body.
c) Remove the luminaire cover and tighten the two allen screws
securing the luminaire onto the fixing bracket.
Wiring
WARNING: Mineral insulated cable should not be used on discharge
lighting installations.
a) Introduce the wiring into the luminaire via the mounting bracket
spigot.
b) Arrange mains wiring away from internal sources of heat such as
ballasts.
c) Fit the supplied sleeving over the cable ends where they enter the
luminair
d) Secure cables in position using the fitted clamp.
e) Connect the earth cable, coloured green or green/yellow to the
earth terminal in the luminaire.
f) Connect the neutral cable, coloured blue or black to the neutral
connection in the terminal block.
g) Connect the live or phase cable, coloured brown or red to the live
connection in the terminal block.
h) The mains supply should be fused at 5 Amps.

Automatic operation

A photocell unit is supplied with the luminaire and is used to give
automatic switching at dusk and dawn. The photocell unit has an Inbuilt

time delay to avoid nuisance switching by clouds or car headlights.
To fit the unit:
a) Remove the blanking cover over the NEMA socket located on top of

Before switching on the mains supply ensure that:
a) The lamp support; is fitted and the lamp is in position.

Lamp disposal
Low pressure sodium lamps must be disposed of with precautions
taken against the risk of fire, and flying glass or other fragments.
The lamps (no more than 20 at a time) should be broken into small
pieces in a large dry container, in a dry atmosphere. The container
when one quarter full should be filled with water. The lamp disposer
must stand back (eg. use a hose), when filling the container with water.
After a few minutes, the metallic sodium will be inactive and the debris
may be disposed of conventionally.
Note: Should the lamp arrive damaged with the fitting, the fitting
UNDER NO ACCOUNT SHOULD THE DAMAGED LAMP BE
RETURNED TO RS COMPONENTS BY POST.
