Important Safety Instructions
• Read and understand tool instruction manual before attempting
repairs.
• Use only genuine D
WALT replacement parts.

• Always wear ANSI compliant eye protection.
• Disconnect air from tool and remove all nails before servicing.
• Always point tool in safe direction when reconnecting air supply.
CAUTION:
• Do not allow dirt, dust or other foreign materials to enter the tool.
• Be careful not to scratch or damage the o-rings or any internal
surfaces.

Bumper
Bumper Plate
1. Disconnect air from tool before servicing or repairing.
2. Remove all nails from the magazine and nosepiece before
servicing or repairing.
3. Remove four screws from top cap (A) with 3 mm Allen wrench
provided in kit box. The head valve (B) and head valve spring (C)
easily remove. Take care not to misplace them.

4. Remove piston/driver subassembly (D) from the tool.
5. Remove cylinder (E) and bulkhead (F) assembly from tool.
6. Remove bumper (G) and bumper plate (H) from bottom of housing.
7. Ensure the inside of the tool is free from dirt and debris.
8. Place piston/driver subassembly (D) back into cylinder (E).
9. Place bumper (G) onto bottom of cylinder (E).

10. Place bumper plate (H) through the piston/driver sub-
assembly (D) and onto the bottom of the bumper (G).
11. D51236 ONLY
Make sure the piston/driver subsssembly's flat (smooth) side
is facing toward FRONT of tool. Slide the cylinder/bulkhead/
piston/ driver/bum per/bumper plate into the tool so the piston/
driver subassembly slides down the driver blade channel in the
nosepiece.
D51420 ONLY
Make sure the piston/driver subsssembly's flat (smooth) side
is facing toward BACK of tool. Slide the cylinder/bulkhead/
piston/ driver/bum per/bumper plate into the tool so the
piston/driver subassembly slides down the driver blade
channel in the nosepiece.
12. Place entire cylinder subassembly back into the tool. Be
sure to properly seat the bulkhead/cylinder hold-down (F).
13. Ensure top gasket (I) is properly placed between the top cap
and frame before fastening the top cap.
14. Make sure to reinstall head valve (B) and head valve spring
(C).
15. Replace top cap (A) and fasten four screws with a 3 mm
Allen wrench.
16. Tighten screws snugly to prevent leaks.
17. Ensure trigger and contact trip are working smoothly.
18. Set pressure on compressor or air line at 80 psi.
19. Pointing tool in safe direction, connect tool to air supply. Tool
must not leak air.
20. Check for proper operation of tool. If tool continues to leak
air or if problems persist, take nailer to a D
center.
21. If warning labels are missing or damaged, request replace-
ments from a D
