National Technical Approval
No. Z.-40.12-227
5.1.3
Documentation
The container manufacturer must supply a copy of the national technical approval to the
installation operator.
5.2
Maintenance, servicing
(1) When maintaining and repairing containment units, the operator of a storage system
is obliged to commission a specialist firm, within the meaning of § 3 of the Ordinance on
Facilities Dealing with Substances Hazardous to Water of 31 March 2010
S. 377). This does not apply if this type of work has been excepted from the specialist
requirement by state regulations, or the manufacturer of the containment units uses its
own specialist staff to carry out the work.
(2) Steps to remedy damage should be clarified in consultation with an external expert
in water legislation or with the manufacturer's own expert.
5.3
Inspections
(1) The operator must visually inspect the containment unit for leaks at least once per
week. Escaped liquid should be cleared up immediately. The containment unit should be
checked before further use and, if necessary, replaced.
(2) A rigorous visual inspection of the containment unit must be carried out annually.
Insofar as containers/vessels are sited in it, these are to be taken out of the containment
unit and, if necessary, the containment unit is to be cleaned.
(3) If the containment unit has been repaired after it sustained damage that seriously
impaired its proper operation, a leak test is to be undertaken using water. Repair and
leak testing must either be carried out by the manufacturer or by a specialist company in
accordance with section 5.2(1).
(4) The results of the inspection carried out under (2) are to be logged and submitted to
the German Institute for Structural Engineering (DIBt) upon request.
(5) This shall not affect inspections required by other areas of law.

Materials
Only resins and reinforcement materials that have been granted national technical approval may
be used to produce the containment units. Until 1 March 2017, materials from brands and
manufacturers specified on a materials list filed with the German Institute for Structural
Engineering (DIBt) may also be used.
1
Reactive resins
Laminating resins
The resins used must be unsaturated polyester resins from resin group 1B or vinylester
resins from resin group 7A or 7B acc. to EN 13121-1
Hardening systems
The hardening systems used must be suitable for the various resins.
2
Reinforcement materials
2
Fibreglass mats acc. to ISO 2559
weighing 450 g/m²
3
Inner nonwoven coat and outer topcoat
3.1
Resin and hardening system
The resins and hardening systems used shall be in accordance with section 1. If
required, suitable additives may be added to the outer protective coating at up to 10% by
weight.
3.2
Reinforcement materials
The nonwovens used shall be made from ECR-glass, C-glass or A-glass weighing 30 to
60 g/m².
4
Steel parts
The steel used complies with the materials list filed with the German Institute for
Structural Engineering (DIBt).
5
Grids
The grids used are made from GRP or galvanised steel. The load value for type 65 and
type 150 collection trays must be at least 2.5 kN/m² and at least 7.5 kN/m² for the other
sizes.

Packaging, transport and storage
1
Packaging
The containment units must be supplied with transport packaging.
2
Transport, storage
2.1.
General
Transport shall be carried out only by companies with specialist experience, suitable
machinery, equipment and means of transport, and adequately trained staff.
To prevent danger to employees and third parties, the relevant accident prevention
regulations shall be observed.
2.2
Preparation for transport
The containment units must be prepared for transport such that no damage occurs
during loading, transport and unloading.
The loading surface of the transport vehicle shall be designed such that it excludes the
possibility of containment units being damaged by impact or pressure due to point
loading.
2.3
Loading and unloading
When lifting, moving and setting down the containment units, impact loads must be
avoided.
The containment units must not be dragged over the ground or floor.
2.4
Transport
The containment units must be secured against moving around during carriage.
The containment unit must not be damaged by the method used to secure them.
2.5
Storage
If the containment units need to be stored prior to fitting/installation then this must be on
flat ground. When stored outside, the containment units should be protected from
damage and storms.
2.6
Damage
In the event of damage sustained during transport or temporary storage, a competent
4
expert in synthetic materials
or the manufacturer's own expert shall determine the
course of action.
