Connection to
Amplifier or Receiver
We recommend standard 16-gauge speaker wire (or
larger multi-stranded cable) for connecting this
speaker, to your receiver. When using more than one
s p e a k e r i t i s i m p o r t a n t t h a t e a c h s p e a k e r b e
connected in the same way to each channel of the
amplifier. This ensures that the speakers operate "in
phase," that is, that their cones move back and forth
together to yield fullest bass response and proper
stereo imaging. (see illustration below).

After the speakers are connected, you can check for
proper phasing by means of a simple listening test.
Place the speakers face-to-face, just a few inches
a p a r t . S e t y o u r r e c e i v e r t o m o n o , p l a y s o m e
m u s i c , a n d r e v e r s e t h e c o n n e c t i o n s t o o n e
s p e a k e r . Whichever way yields fuller and louder
sound is the correct connection.
Speaker Placement
Your goal, and ours, is to achieve flat frequency
response and optimum stereo imaging in spite of any
undesirable acoustic properties your room may have.
Placement is critical in matching your new speakers to
the room, and to your taste.
Tower
The New Vision loudspeakers are designed for flo
p l a c e m e n t . T h e i r h e i g h t a n d d r i v e r s p a c i n g a
designed to give you a good start toward optimu
imaging and frequency response. If you have the time a
inclination you can experiment with various plac
ments, with the knowledge that room acoustics can oft
produce large apparent differences in the sound for sm
changes in placement. For example, although the speak
may be located at any height above the floor, locating t
tweeter somewhere near ear level often provides t
most realistic musical imaging.
Another rule of thumb is that the proportion of ba
increases as you move a speaker closer to intersecti
room surfaces (wall, ceiling and floors), and that the mo
bass (often times too much) results from placeme
in a corner at the floor or ceiling. With these rules
mind, you should be able to obtain the balance you pre
with reasonable ease.
Power Handling
As with any product, the New Vision have their operating lim
and consistently exceeding those limits will damage t
speakers. Fortunately, there is an audible warning when tho
limits are reached: distortion, such as "fuzzy" or "grit
sound which is usually the result of driving an amplifier beyo
its undistorted power capability.
Overdriving an amplifier or sound processor –including one w
a modest power rating–in turn overdrives the speaker so th
permanent damage results. Should you encounter t
warning of distortion at loud v o l u m e l e v e l s , n o h a
will be done if you immediately turn down the volume
a point where t h e d i s t o r t i o n d i s a p p e a r s . H o w e v e
prolonged operation at distorted volume levels can dama
the speaker system, and such damage is not covered by
warranty.
Note: If you intend to play more than one pair of Adve
loudspeakers simultaneously, please contact your amplifi
receiver manufacturer to verify low impedance capability
your equipment.
