PARAMOUNT
QUICK START GUIDE
Preparing for installation
Making sure you have the right tools on hand helps ensure a smooth installation. Below is
a list of recommended tools:
•
drywall saw
•
stud finder
•
phillips screwdriver (or a power driver with a low torque setting)
•
pencil
Confirm your mount location with a stud finder
After you map out your AP locations, make sure there's enough space in the wall or
ceiling to accommodate the mount.
Identify any potential hazards behind the wall or ceiling. Use a stud finder that can detect
metal pipes, AC wires, and other obstacles hidden behind your walls.
Do a thorough check behind the walls or above the ceiling
Try to inspect as much as possible without making a hole. See if you can detect which
way joists run and where empty wall space between studs might be.
You're looking for wall or ceiling locations that are empty of pipes and electrical wires.
You may not know what's behind the wall or ceiling with absolute certainty, so you might
have to cut and patch exploratory holes.
Beware of dust
Cutting into drywall and plaster creates a fair amount of dust. Cover any furniture near
your installation before you begin your work. It's helpful to have someone hold the vacuum
hose under the drywall saw as you cut. This eliminates a lot of the dust clouds that are
generated during installation.
Start with a pilot hole
Drill a pilot hole to determine if each of your AP locations will work. This lets you explore
the space behind the wall or ceiling to make sure there are no possible obstructions.
Before you begin, turn off the power in areas you'll be working to avoid electric shock.
Once you have confirmed clearance with a stud finder, drill a small hole in the middle of
the desired location.
Explore the area
Insert a sturdy wire (ie. bent coat hanger) into the pilot hole. If you suspect live power
lines behind the ceiling near your pilot hole, wrap the exploratory wire with electrical tape.
Explore the surrounding area. Make sure there's enough room for the mount and that
there are no obstructions.
Use these instructions as a template to mark the area you will cut
Hold this template to the wall or ceiling where you wish to locate your access point. Draw
a line around the perimeter with a pencil. Cut into the ceiling with your drywall saw using
the pencil lines as a guide. The cutout is 10.625" square.
Running your cable
Make sure that the Ethernet cable you will be
connecting to your AP is run through one of the two
open corners of the mount housing.
Installing the mount
Insert the housing into the square opening. Using a
screwdriver, tighten the screws connected to the
orange swing clamps that release and lock the mount
securely into place. Tighten the mount until it's flat
against the ceiling. Note: IF YOU USE A POWER
DRILL YOU RISK OVERTIGHTENING THE MOUNT,
WHICH WILL BEND THE HOUSING AND PREVENT A FLUSH FITTING. IF USING A
POWER DRILL, SET THE TORQUE TO THE LOWEST POSSIBLE SETTING.

Determine whether you need the spacer
If using a smaller access point, we have included a spacer with which to push the AP
as close to the ceiling as possible for optimal signal propagation. Test to see if your
AP is small enough that it can fit with the spacer when the cover is applied.
Plug in your AP and then place it behind the
orange cables
Turn the ratcheting knob until it's tight. If the cables are
too tight to insert the AP pull the lever next to the knob.
This releases the cable, then pull until you have enough
slack. The system is designed so that you cannot over
tighten.
Place the magnetic cover over the mount,
you should hear it click when the magnets are properly aligned
Optional: paint the cover with any non-metallic paint; or apply ceiling or wall texture
for maximum camoflauge.
Removing your Access Point
Remove the magnetic cover by grabbing the sides and pulling it straight down from
the ceiling
If the mount has been painted onto the ceiling or wall you may need to cut around the
edges to release the paint and to prevent damaging the paint on the ceiling.
Pull the orange lever which releases the tension on the orange
cables
Unplug any cables attached to your AP (eg. Ethernet cable). Then pull the AP out
from behind the orange cables.
Replace the magnetic cover
Troubleshooting
Problem: The cover doesn't sit flat and flush against the wall/ceiling
Resolution: You have tightened the screws too far and the housing has been slightly
bent. Slightly back off on the screws until the housing is tight against the wall/ceiling
but not so tight that the housing is bent.
Problem: The cables are so tight I can't fit my AP behind them
Resolution: Pull the orange lever to release the tension on the cables. This will allow
you to get your AP behind them.
