Getting Started with WASP-N
This technical note will help you configure your new WASP-N to join your Wi-Fi network.
Before getting started, you will need to join the WASP Forum. To join the forum, go to
http://www.npe-inc.com/Waspforum/index.php. You will need to register and wait for
approval before proceeding.
You will need the following information:
1. The SSID (name) of the Wi-Fi Access Point you would like to connect your WASP-N
to.
2. The type of security on your Wi-Fi Access Point.
3. The Password of the Wi-Fi Access Point.
4. Is DHCP used for automatic addressing? (Note: if not you will need to get a Static IP
assigned by your network administrator and the gateway IP and subnet setting).
STARTING UP WASP-N
Turning WASP-N on/off or changing operating modes is performed using the button on the
front panel of the device. This button is a membrane switch and feedback on button
presses is provided by the green and red LEDs above the button. The red LED is on the left
side of the label and the green LED is on the right side.
GREEN LED
The green LED is primarily used to indicate the WASP-N is powered on and shows its
operational state.
RED LED
The red LED is used to provide change of state feedback, indicate the state of the internal
battery charger and to indicate progress when joining Wi-Fi networks.
The micro-USB connector on the side of the WASP-N is used to charge the internal Lithium
Ion battery using either a USB connection on a computer, or a stand-alone wall charger. It
can also be used to configure the WASP-N via an application running on a computer
connected to the USB cable.
Turning On the WASP-N
Pressing the black button on the WASP-N turns the green LED on immediately. Continue to
hold the button until the red LED turns on then release the button immediately. After you
release the button you will notice the green LED continues to flash. This indicates that the
WASP-N has entered operational mode.
The WASP-N actually has a couple of different modes of operation. The green LED indicates
which mode is active.
