2.2 Qualification of the professional staff
Mounting and commissioning of the device require basic mechanical and electrical knowledge as well as knowledge of the
associated technical terms. In order to ensure operational safety, these activities may only be carried out by a trained, in-
structed (also with respect to safety), and authorized specialist or by an instructed person under the direction of a specialist.
A specialist is someone who is able to assess the work assigned to him, recognize possible hazards and take suitable safety
measures, on the basis of his technical training, knowledge and experience as well as his knowledge of the relevant regula-
tions. A specialist must comply with the relevant specialist rules.
2.3 General safety notes
– In case of emergency, disconnect the complete room-by-room temperature control system.
– Only work on live parts when they are de-energized.
– Only use the device if it is in flawless state.
– Do not operate the device without device cover.
– Ensure that the device does not get into the hands of children.
– Only use the device within the power range and ambient conditions specified in the Technical Data.
– Ensure that the device is not exposed to the effects of moisture, vibration, constant sunlight or heat, cold or mechanical
stress.

3 Product description

The Alpha Smartware Base Station is the central connection and control unit for precise centralized room-by-room tempera-

ture control system of surface heating systems.
The base station evaluates the recorded setpoint and actual temperatures of the coupled Alpha Smartware room control

units. According to this information, the rooms are always set to the specified target temperature via the connected thermal
actuators.
The base station is available as a 6- and 10-channel variant and is equipped with a pump control.
– 10 actuators are possible at the 6-channel base station, distributed in the following way: 4x2 actuators at HZ 1, 2, 5, 6
and 2x1 drive per heating zone at HZ 3, 4.
– 14 actuators are possible at the 10-channel base station, distributed in the following way: 4x2 actuators at HZ 3, 4, 7, 8
and 6x1 drive per heating zone at HZ 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, 10.
The Alpha Smartware Base station can be installed and operated in stand-alone mode without internet connection. Alterna-
tively, there is the possibility of extension and integration into the cloud-based Alpha Smartware system; control and individ-
ual configuration can be done via the Alpha Smart App.
Radio transmission is realized on a non-exclusive transmission path; thus, interference cannot be completely excluded. Exam-
ples for interferences are: Switching operations, electric motors, defective electrical appliances
3.1 Control operation
Due to the optimization of a PWM cycle during the load compensation, the actuators installed in the system open
and close at different times. This is also true if several heating zones are logged on to a room control unit.
At the end of commissioning, regular operation of the Alpha SmartSystem starts.
