Water container
Only use the wet grinding wheel when there is water in
the water container.
Approximately one third of the wet grinding wheel should
be immersed in water.
Note: A water level which is too high or too low can
have a negative influence on the grinding results.
Regularly change the water in the water container. To
do this, hold a collecting basin beneath the water
container. Puli out the rubber stopper (black arrow in
Fig. 5) on the bottom of the water container and drain
the water. Once the water has run out, put the rubber
stopper back in the discharge opening.
Slightly undo the two hexagon screws (black arrows in
Fig-6).
Note:
It may be necessary to remove the screws
completely in order to remove the water container. Pull
the container out from below.
Commissioning
The dry/wet grinding machine can be used for coarse
or fine grinding. Please make sure that this machine is
not in permanent operation.
To prevent possible overloading/overheating it should
not be operated for more than 15-30 minutes at a time.
Let grinder cool down before restarting.
Apply moderate pressure when holding the workpiece
against the grinding wheel. Remember that the metal
heats upbythe grinding. The workpiece should therefore
regularly cooled by submerging it in cold water.
The dry grinding wheels of this bench grinders are
suitable for rough grinding only.
Size of part to be machined
The part to be machined must at least be large enough
to hold securely in both hands.
A larger work piece must also be able to be held securely
in place and must not slip from the work piece support
during the grinding process. When selecting the size of
the work pieces, please bear In mind the grinding
capacity of your grinding machine.
Drill grinding
The work piece supporting mechanism on the right
grinding wheel is fitted with a trough for grinding borers.
After switching on the grinding machine, hold the borer
to be sharpened with both hands and press it into the
trough. Then carefully guide the tip of the borer on to
the grinding wheel and slowly turn the borer during the
entire grinding process.
Wet grinding
Prior to wet grinding check that there Is enough water in
the water container (one third of the wet grinding wheel
must be immersed in water!). If necessary top up the
water in the water container. Switch on the grinding
machine and stand to the left of the grinding machine in
front of the wet grinding wheel. Hold the work piece
with both hands and carefully lower it on to the wet
grinding wheel.
You can also support the work piece on the teeth of the
water holder and lower it on to the grinding wheel.
Prior to Commissioning
The mains voltage must correspond with the voltage
stated on the machine's name plate.
The grinding wheels are to be subjected to a resonance
test (see section Grinding Wheel Check below). This
resonance test is also to be carried out when replacement
grinding wheels are mounted.
The grinder is to be subjected to a no-load trial run for at
least 5 minutes. Do not stand in the grinder's danger
zone during this trial run.
Grinding Wheels
When replacing grinding wheels it is important to ensure
that the new wheel fits your grinding machine, i.e. arbor
bore size, outer diameter and wheel width must
correspond with the original grinding wheel. This infor¬
mation is shown on all commercially available grinding
wheels. It is recommended to check if an approval code
is shown on the grinding wheel and to buy only approved
grinding wheels. Genuine Elektra Beckum grinding
wheels are guaranteed for a constant high quality level.
They are available at your Elektra Beckum dealer in all
common sizes and compositions.
