Removegas-poweredequipmentfrom
the truck or trailer and refuel it on the
ground. If this is not possible,then
refuel such equipmentwith a portable
container,ratherthan from a gasoline
dispensernozzle.
Keepthe nozzle in contact with the rim
of the fuel tank or containeropening at
all times until fueling is complete.Do
not use a nozzle lock-opendevice.
If fuel is spilledon clothing, change
clothing immediately.
Neveroverfillfuel tank. Replacegas
cap and tighten securely.
GENERAL SERVICE
Neveroperate machinein a closed
area.
Keepall nuts and bolts tight to be sure
the equipmentis in safe workingcondi-
tion.
Nevertamperwith safetydevices.
Checktheir proper operationregularly.
Keepmachinefree of grass, leaves,or
other debris build-up. Cleanoil or fuel
spillage and removeany fuel-soaked
debris. Allow machineto cool before
storing.
If you strike a foreign object,stop and
inspectthe machine.Repair, if neces-
sary,before restarting.
Nevermakeany adjustmentsor repairs
with the enginerunning.
Checkgrass catcher componentsand
the dischargeguard frequently and
replacewith manufacturer'srecom-
mendedparts,when necessary.
Mowerblades are sharp. Wrap the
bladeor wear gloves,and use extra
caution when servicingthem.
Check brakeoperationfrequently. Ad-
just and service as required.
Maintainor replacesafety and instruc-
tion labels, as necessary.
Be sure the area is clear of bystand-
ers beforeoperating. Stop machineif
anyoneentersthe area.
Nevercarry passengers.
Do not mow in reverseunlessabso-
lutely necessary.Alwayslook down
and behind beforeand while backing.
Nevercarry children, evenwith the
bladesshut off. They may fall off and
be seriouslyinjuredor interferewith
safe machineoperation.Children who
havebeen given rides in the past may
suddenlyappearin the mowing area
for another ride and be run over or
backedover by the machine.
Keepchildrenout of the mowingarea
and in the watchfulcare of a respon-
sible adult other than the operator.
Be alert and turn machineoff if a child
entersthe area.
Beforeand while backing,look behind
and down for smallchildren.
Mowup and down slopes (15° Max),
not across.
Choose a low ground speed so that
you will not haveto stop or shift while
on the slope.
Avoidstarting, stopping, or turning on
a slope. If the tires lose traction, dis-
engagethe bladesand proceedslowly
straight down the slope.
If machinestops while going uphill,
disengageblades, shift into reverse
and back downslowly.
Do not turn on slopes unless neces-
sary,and then, turn slowly and gradu-
ally downhill, if possible.
