1 Operating Elements and Connections
1.1 Front panel
1 Button QUAD for switching the unit to quad splitter
operation
2 Button SWITCH for switching the unit to automatic
full screen switching operation
3 Buttons for manual selection and switching of the
camera inputs
1.2 Rear panel
4 BNC output jack SWITCH for the connection of a
monitor
5 BNC output jack QUAD ONLY for the connection of
a video recorder or a second monitor for recording
or display of all camera pictures in the quad splitter
operation (independent of the selected operating
mode)
6 BNC input jacks 1 to 4 for the connection of the
cameras
7 Gain controls G 1 to G4 for each camera channel
8 Low voltage jack DC 12 V for the connection of a
power supply unit, e. g. PS-362ST by MONACOR
(not included in the delivery), or another 12 V DC
supply,
current rating 200 mA;
centre contact = positive pole
2 Safety Notes
The unit corresponds to the directive 89/336/EEC for
electromagnetic compatibility.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect the
unit against humidity and heat (admissible ambient
temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
If the unit is used for purposes other than originally
intended, if it is connected in the wrong way or not
repaired by authorized, skilled personnel, there is no
liability for possible damage.
If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively,
same has to be disposed of in a local recycling plant.
3 Applications
The B/W quad processor TVSP-42 is designed for
applications in video monitoring systems. It is a combi-
nation of a video splitter and a camera switcher by
which four camera pictures can be monitored in real
time on one monitor:
1. together as size-reduced black and white pictures
on a quad screen in quad splitter operation
2. one after the other as individual pictures (in black/
white or in colour) in automatic full screen sequen-
tial operation (dwell time of picture 4 seconds).
6
4 Connection of the Unit
The quad processor must be separated from the mains
if connections to other units are made or changed.
4.1 Cameras
Up to four cameras may be connected to the input
jacks (6). The inputs 1 to 4 are assigned to the buttons
(3) in the sequence from left to right, i. e. button
responds to input 1 etc.
4.2 Monitor and video recorder
Connect the main monitor to jack SWITCH (4). A fur-
ther monitor or a video recorder for recording may be
connected to jack QUAD ONLY (5). Thus, a permanent
display or recording of all camera pictures is possible
in the quad splitter operation (independent of the se-
lected operating mode).
4.3 Power supply
After connection of all other units connect the quad
processor to a power supply. A 12 V DC voltage with a
capability of at least 200 mA is required. The connec-
tion is made via the low voltage jack DC 12 V (8). The
positive pole is at the centre contact. A low voltage plug
5.5/2.1 mm (outside/inside diameter) is required.
1. Separate power supply unit (not included in the
delivery)
Switch the power supply unit (e. g. PS-362ST by
MONACOR) to an output voltage of 12 V, and place
the positive pole at the centre contact of the match-
ing low voltage plug. Connect the low voltage plug
to jack DC 12 V (8), and the power supply unit to a
mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz).
2. External power supply unit
If a 12 V DC supply is available for the entire moni-
toring system (maybe with mains failure back-up),
the quad processor can be connected via jack
DC 12 V (8) to this power supply as well.
5 Operation
After applying the supply voltage the quad processor is
ready for operation. The automatic switching mode is
activated. The selected function is indicated by an LED
via the corresponding button.
5.1 Quad splitter operation
If the unit shall operate in the quad splitter operation,
press button QUAD (1). To display up to four camera
pictures at the same time, the screen of the monitor is
subdivided into four segments. If less than four cam-
eras are connected, the corresponding segments are
darkened on the monitor. With the gain controls G1 to
G4 (7) the levels of the connected cameras can be
matched with each other.
5.2 Automatic switching of the cameras
For the automatic switching operation press button
SWITCH (2). In this operating mode the camera chan-
nels are displayed on the monitor one after the other
cor-
