1 Operating Elements and Connections
1 "Power" jack for the supply voltage:
direct voltage
9 – 15 V
alternating voltage 8 – 15 V~
required low voltage plug 5.5/2.1 mm
2 Phono jack "Audio In" for the audio input (audio
signal)
3 Phono jack "Video In" for the video input (video
signal)
4 Trimming control "UHF-Channel" for adjusting the
television channel
5 On/off switch "Test" for the test pattern (test pat-
tern see fig. 2)
6 Selector switch for the sound standard (sound
carrier distance)
UK = 6 MHz for Great Britain, Ireland
EU = 5.5 MHz for all other countries in Western
Europe, except France
7 Antenna jack "TV Out" for connecting the tele-
vision set
8 Antenna jack "Antenna In" for connecting the tele-
vision antenna (The antenna signal is passed on
to the television set via the jack "TV Out".)
2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC.
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against humidity and heat (admissible ambient
temperature range 0 – 50 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
If the unit is used for other purposes than originally
intended, if it is not connected or operated in the
correct way or not repaired by authorized person-
nel, no liability for any damage will be accepted.
If the unit is to be put out of operation permanently,
take it to a local recycling plant for disposal.
3 Applications
The modulator VAM-3 converts an AV signal (audio/
video), e. g. from a camera, into a signal that can be
directly fed to the antenna jack of a television set.
Thus, the television set can be used as an observa-
tion monitor. The television antenna is connected to
the modulator, and the antenna signal is passed on to
the television set. Thus, both television and monitor-
ing operation can be realized without connecting or
disconnecting any cables.
The mounting straps allow an easy installation of
the unit at a suitable location. For operation, a power
supply unit (e. g. PS-15AC, PS-128A, PS-70GS by
MONACOR) and an antenna connection cable (e. g.
ACC-150/DS by MONACOR) are additionally re-
quired.
or
4 Connecting the Modulator
1) Connect the video output of the AV source, e. g. a
camera, to the jack "Video In" (3).
2) Connect the audio output of the AV source to the
jack "Audio In" (2).
3) Disconnect the antenna plug from the antenna
jack of the television set and connect it to the jack
"Antenna In" (8) of the modulator.
4) Use an antenna connection cable to connect the
jack "TV Out" (7) to the antenna jack of the tele-
vision set.
5) Connect a suitable power supply unit (see chapter
3 or 6) to the "Power" jack (1).
5 Adjusting the Television Channel
After connection to the supply voltage, the modulator
is ready for operation.
1) Adjust a free channel in the UHF range on the
television set.
2) Set the switch "Test" (5) on the modulator to the
position "On".
3) Use a small screwdriver to adjust the trimming
control "UHF-Channel" (4) until the test pattern
(fig. 2) appears on the screen.
4) Set the switch "Test" to the position "Off".
5) Select the sound standard with the sliding switch
"UK/EU" (6):
position UK
for television sets in Great Britain
and Ireland,
position EU
for television sets in the other coun-
tries in Western Europe, except
France.
6) Switch on the AV source. The picture of the AV
source will appear. Use the fine tuning on the tele-
vision set to adjust the channel more precisely, if
required.
7) For switching to television reception, select the
desired television channels via the corresponding
program keys. For television reception, the modu-
lator must remain connected to the power supply
unit.
