2 Safety Notes
This unit corresponds to the directive for electromag-
netic compatibility 89/336/EEC.
The search coil (6) is humidity-proof, however, the
control element (figs. 1 and 3) is not. When using the
unit in the rain, protect it correspondingly. Also pro-
tect the unit against extreme temperatures (admissi-
ble ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning the control element, only use a dry, soft
cloth. For cleaning the search coil and the handle,
also a damp cloth may be used, however, without
any aggressive detergents or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material damage
will be accepted if the unit is used for other purposes
than originally intended, if it is not correctly connect-
ed, operated, or not repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation de-
finitively, take it to a local recycling plant for
a disposal which is not harmful to the envi-
ronment.

3 Application
The GMD-10 serves for detecting metal objects in the
ground. The unit is able to distinguish between ferrous
and non-ferrous metals. Detection of a metal object
will be indicated by the pointer instrument and also by
an audio signal sounding via the speaker or optional
headphones.
4 Operation
4.1 Adjusting the search coil and the handle
1) Release the locking screw (5) and adjust the angle
of the search coil (6) in such a way that the coil may
be held parallel to the ground. Do not bend or
stretch the connection cable (7). Then retighten the
screw.
2) Release the locking nut (3) by turning it in the direc-
tion of the brighter arrowhead in fig. 2. Adjust the
desired length of the handle by pulling out or push-
ing in its lower part (4). Then retighten the nut.
4.2 Inserting and checking the batteries
1) Open the battery compartment cover (1) on the rear
side of the control panel to the right as indicated in
fig. 1.
2) Insert six batteries of size AA as indicated in the
battery compartment.
3) Close the battery compartment cover.
To check the charging status of the inserted batteries,
set the function switch (12) to the position BATT TEST.
Switch on the unit by turning the VOLUME control (9)
clockwise. With the pointer in the green area between
the values 3 and 6 on the right side of the indicating
scale (8), the batteries have sufficient power for oper-
ating the unit. With the pointer at the left of the green
area, the batteries should be replaced.
Dead batteries or defective rechargeable
batteries do not belong in the household
rubbish; always take them to a special
waste disposal (e. g. collecting container
at your retailer).
4.3 Connecting headphones
The output jack (2) allows connection of stereo head-
phones or earphones with a 3.5 mm plug. In this case,
the speaker (14) will be switched off. By using head-
phones during operation of the unit, you will be able to
concentrate better on the search. Besides, the batter-
ies will last longer as the headphones require a lower
output power.
