The SW-4DMX is a compact 4-channel switch for
remote-controlled switching of spotlights, light
effect units or other units operated at the 230 V
mains, e. g. on stage or in the discothèque. It can
be controlled digitally via a DMX controller or from
the analog output (0 – 10 V) of a light console. The
switching channels are implemented as relays by
which also units with low power (e. g. LED lights)
and inductive loads (e. g. units with motors or
transformers) can be switched. In addition, the
SW-4DMX has a light sequencer function with a
programme running automatically for the control of
spotlights.
4 Mounting
The unit must safely be mounted in an expert way.
On both sides, the housing has mounting brackets
by which it can e. g. be fixed to a wall. In any case
air must be allowed to circulate through all vents so
that sufficient cooling is ensured.

5 Making the Connections

5.1 Connecting spotlights or other units
WARNING Even if the outputs are switched off, a
dangerous mains voltage may be
present at the sockets (2). Therefore,
prior to connecting units or working
at the units, always disconnect the
SW-4DMX from the 230 V mains!
The outputs (2) of the SW-4DMX allow to connect
spotlights, LED light effect units or other units oper-
ating at a voltage of 230 V~. The maximum load per
channel must not exceed 920 VA (4 A).

5.2 Connecting the controller

The SW-4DMX can be controlled digitally via the
DMX interface or in an analog way via the analog
input. A DMX control and an analog mixer may also
be connected at the same time. In this case the
function is defined by the respectively higher value
of the control signals.
5.2.1 Connecting the DMX controller
Connect a controller with DMX512 protocol (e. g.
DMX-1440 or DMX-120USB from "img Stage Line")
as follows:
8
1) Connect the input (7) via a 3-pole XLR cable to
the DMX output of the light controller.
For the connection, use a special cable for high
data flow, if possible. Shielded microphone
cables with a minimum cross section of
2 × 0.22 mm
2
and a low capacity should only be
used for a total cable length of up to 100 m. For
cable lengths exceeding 150 m it is recom-
mended to insert a DMX level matching amplifier
(e. g. SR-103DMX).
2) Connect the output (8) to the DMX input of the
next DMX-controlled unit. Connect its output
again to the input of the following unit etc. until
all units are connected in a chain.
The DMX output jack has a latching. To pull out
the plug, press the PUSH lever.
3) Especially for long connection cables it is rec-
ommended to connect a terminating plug (e. g.
DLT-123) to the output jack of the last unit.
5.2.2 Connecting an analog controller
Connect an analog light controller with 0 – 10 V
control voltage as follows:
1) Connect the input ANALOG IN (9) to the analog
output of the light controller. For connection, an
8-pole DIN plug is required. The configuration of
the jacks is shown in figure 3. The connection of
the central contact is optional. It can serve for
the supply of an analog console without individ-
ual mains connection. When connecting, ensure
that the admissible supply voltage of the console
and the maximum current of 500 mA will not be
exceeded.
2) For operating another switch with analog control
(0 – 10 V) in parallel to the SW-4DMX, it may be
connected via the 8-pole DIN jack ANALOG
THROUGH (9). The configuration of the jack is
shown in fig. 3. Do not connect the central con-
tact in this case!
5.3 Making the mains connection
For power supply, connect the unit via the Power-
Con
®
jack (1) to the 230 V mains. A mains cable is
not supplied with the unit. For connection, a mains
cable with a PowerCon
(e. g. AAC-115P from "img Stage Line") may be
used. Also ensure that the circuit the unit is con-
nected to is protected by a fuse of a correspond-
ingly high value.
