STANDARD DIGITAL THERMOMETER
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Performance of this device may be degraded if it is operated outside of stated temperature
humidity range, stored outside of stated temperature/humidity range, dropped or subjected
to mechanical shock, and/or patient temperature is below ambient temperature.
High, prolonged fever requires medical attention.Be sure to contact your physician.
For parental use.Do not leave child unattended with thermometer.
Avoid exercise and drinking hot or cold beverages before taking a reading.
Measurement Range:
Clean the probe tip with isopropyl alcohol or mild soap and warm water
Measurement Accuracy:
Clean before first use and after each use.
Thermometer is water resistant.
Store thermometer in protective case when not in use.
Reference to standards:
Store at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.
HOW TO TAKE TEMPERATURE:
Keep in mind that taking a temperature can be trying for both parent and child.
When taking a reading be sure to remain calm and confident. The sound of your voice
can be very soothing for an infant.Explaining what you are about to do and why can be
helpful for a toddler or older child.
1.Remove thermometer from protective case.Be sure to clean thermometer before first use and after each use.
2.Push the ON-OFF button located on the large end of the thermometer. The display will read:"188.8 ° ".This is a function check indicating the unit is working properly
If a reading is in memory it will be displayed briefly. When the °F or °C begins to flash, the thermometer will begin measuring temperature when exposed to body heat.
3.The °F (or °C) symbol will continuously flash until completion of the temperature taking process. Please note that the " " indicates a low battery.
An "ERR"message in the window indicates your unit is not functioning properly. Do not expect an accurate temperature reading if this low battery indicator is present.
ORAL USE:
(for children 4 years and older)
Do not drink hot or cold fluids, exercise or perform other activities
that will raise or lower temperature readings when compared to
your child's normal,average temperature.The mouth should
remain closed up to 5 minutes before attempting a reading.
*
Place the probe tip well under the tongue as indicated by the "
".
(Figure A)
(see Figure A) Instruct children not to bite thermometer.
The peak temperature should be reached in approximately 60 seconds.Opening the
mouth or improper placement of the probe tip could result in a longer time for a reading.
Follow numbered instructions below.
RECTAL USE: (Infants and small children)
Commonly used for babies, young children or when it is difficult to take an oral or
underarm temperature.
Lubricate probe tip with a water-soluble jelly or petroleum jelly.
For easier insertion, position baby on his tummy, keeping his legs at a 45°angle to his
back.It may be helpful to position the baby on your lap. Spread baby's buttocks with your
thumb and forefinger. Gently insert probe a MAXIMUM of 1/2 in or 1.3 cm into baby's
rectum and hold thermometer lightly in place. Do not force probe tip if you encounter resistance.
The peak temperature should be reached in approximately 40 seconds.
Follow numbered instructions below.
Important Note: A rectal reading will be approximately 1 degree higher than an oral reading.
To calculate the oral equivalent subtract 1°F or 0.5°C from the rectal temperature reading.
Once you have used the thermometer to take a rectal reading,do not take any oral
readings,for hygenic reasons.
BATTERY INFORMATION:
When the "
" appears in the lower right of the display, the battery is exhausted. Dispose of the thermometer as the battery is non-replaceable

WHAT IS A "NORMAL" TEMPERATURE?:
Temperature readings vary in different individuals.A normal temperature refers to each
individual's average temperature while they are well.Be familiar with your child's normal
temperature so you can identify when he has a fever.Normalaverage temperatures
range from 97°F/36.1°C to 100°F/37.7°C when taken orally.
90.0°F to 109.9°F / 32.0°C to 43.9°C
+ _ 0.2°F / 0.1°C between 93.2°F to 107.6°F / 34°C to 42°C at
a room temperature of 64.4°F to 82.4°F / 18°C to 28°C.
(The manufacturer recommends a calibration check every 2-years)

UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE:
Wipe underarm with a dry towel.
Place probe tip in armpit and bring
arm down against the body. (Figure B)
The probe should be pointing upward
in the same direction as your body if possible.
(Figure B)
The time required for an accurate underarm temperature may be 90 seconds or longer
depending on placement of the probe and closure of the arm against the body.
Important Note:An underarm reading will be approximately 1 degree lower than
an oral reading. To calculate the oral equivalent add 1°F or 0.5°C to the underarm
temperature reading.
4. When the °F or C°symbol stops flashing and the display reads
a constant temperature, the peak temperature has been reached.
5. Read and record the temperature and time for reference
The reading will automatically be stored in the memory.
6. Push the on/off button to turn the unit off. This will prolong the battery life.
