5. Sharpening angle must match the existing
bevel angle of chisel. If your chisel does not
specify an angle you may need to
experiment with various angles to achieve
the desired bevel.
To adjust the sharpening angle, loosen
knob by turning counterclockwise, adjust
guide plate to desired angle and retighten
knob by turning clockwise. Cutting edge
should not extend beyond centerline of
sharpening wheel. (Fig. 20)
6. Adjust blade depth by sliding it down until
light contact is made between the cutting
edge and sharpening wheel.
7. With a firm grip on the blade, pull guide plate
into the forward until the cutting edge is no
longer touching the sharpening wheel.
8. Turn motor unit "ON".
9. While holding the blade down to the guide
plate with one hand and supporting the side
of the blade with the other, push the blade
back and forth across the sharpening wheel
to begin sharpening (Fig. 21). Use light
steady pressure. To prevent damage, do not
hold the blade stationary on the wheel.
10. Gradually slide the blade down the guide
plate while moving it back and forth. Use
light steady pressure. Repeat this process
until entire face has the same bevel angle.
11. Remove blade from guide plate and check
to make sure the cutting edge is evenly
sharpened (Fig 22). If not, adjust guide
plate angle and repeat steps 7-11.
12. Turn motor unit "OFF".
13. Remove resulting burr on the back side of
blade using an oil stone prior to use.
