WARNING!
Earthing 220 Volt (240 Volt) electrical equipment on board
a ship that is NOT connected to an earth-leak protected
dockside socket is only useful when there is an earth-leak
protection or a frame insulation installation (floating mains).
Please consult
your installer for more information. Furthermore, local regu-
lations are applicable here, and these differ from country to
country, and the use to which the boat is put is also impor-
tant, as there are often special regulations applied to com-
mercial and
especially passenger shipping. VETUS cannot accept any
responsibility for the charger if it is used in contravention to
the local regulations.
Earthing (in general) can lead to corrosion (especially on
aluminium vessels) consult your installer.

Remote Control

The remote control is fitted with a 6 metre long cable with plug.
Insert this plug into the socket at the left side panel of the bat-
tery charger.

Description of operation

The Vetus battery charger has a charge characteristic that can
be called I/U float (DIN IU1U2).
This is the most effective charge characteristic and complete
safe for all sorts of open and sealed batteries.
• Boost-phase
When dockside voltage is connected and the charger is 'ON', it
will automatically start to charge the batteries with an average
maximum current of 15 Amps.
• Equalize-phase
As soon as the battery gas pressure is reached (14.2 Volts) the
charger switches to a lower current, whereby the voltage
remains at 14.2 Volts. This is called an I/U charge characteristic,
and is essential for sealed batteries.
• Float-phase
When the charge current has dropped to about 2 Amps, the
charge voltage is reduced to 13.5 Volts; this reduces battery
water consumption and makes it possible to keep the battery
connected to the charger for a long period of time while it is not
supervised.

Battery Charging

Plug in the mains lead into the shore power socket, thus con-
necting the inverter/charger to 220 (240) Volts. Switch the bat-
tery charger 'ON' and the green LED 'CHARGER ON' will light.
A second later the LOAD PHASE INDICATOR will light and the
equipment is operational.
At first, the charger will operate in the 'BOOST' phase. Then the
charging current is 15 Amps. The voltage of the battery will
increase slowly (depending upon capacity and charge condi-
tion of your battery) until it reaches 14.2 Volts; then the regula-
tor will limit the charge voltage to 14.2 Volt.
After some time the charge current is minimal and the charger
switches to the float-phase. The charger can be turned off by
switching the switch to the 'OFF' position.
As soon as the voltage is dropped to less than 13 Volt will, if the
charger is switched on, the whole process be repeated from the
beginning.
