Never use the Draeger-Tube unless
– you fully understand and strictly observe these Instructions for Use, and the pump's
Instructions for Use,
– your employer has trained you how to use the Draeger-Tubes properly, and
– you have passed a test demonstrating to your employer that you can properly use the
Draeger-Tube!
The Draeger-Tube content is toxic/caustic. Do not swallow. Avoid skin or eye contact.
Use the Draeger-Tubes only for their intended use (see „Intended use" section, below)!
Before each measurement, perform a leak test of the pump with an unused
Draeger-Tube - otherwise, you may get a false reading.
Both ends of the Draeger-Tube must be broken off before placing the Draeger-Tube
into the pump - otherwise, measurement is impossible!
When inserting into the pump, the black arrow on the Draeger-Tube must point toward
the pump - otherwise, measurement is impossible.
The Draeger-Tube contains an inner glass reagent ampoule (3) that must be broken,
and its liquid contents emptied after measuring - otherwise, measurement is
impossible!
After breaking the inner ampoule by bending the outer Draeger-Tube, check if the
heat shrink wrap around the tubing (2) is damaged. If it is, do not use the
Draeger-Tube!
To avoid false readings, never use Draeger-Tubes after expiration date printed on
packaging has passed, or that have been stored in temperatures outside the limits
printed on packaging!
Use only Dräger pumps - non-Dräger pumps may cause false readings!
Intended use
The tube's purpose is to determine whether methyl and ethyl mercaptan is in the air or
in technical gases at the precise time and place of measurement. The Draeger-Tube is
intended only as a spot measurement.

Measurement and evaluation
1.
Ensure the measuring site has good lighting.
2.
Break off both Draeger-Tube ends in the Dräger-Tube opener. (This may create
sharp edges, so be careful.)
3.
Hold the Draeger-Tube in a vertical orientation and insert it tightly down into the
pump. The arrow must point toward the pump (4) - otherwise, measurement is
impossible!
4.
Execute 10 strokes to draw air or gas sample through the tube: Duration of
measurement approx. 2.5 minutes.
5.
Break the inner glass reagent ampoule by bending the Draeger-Tube approx. 45° at
the point etched between the two black dots (1). Make sure that the inner ampoule
is indeed broken.
6.
Empty the ampoule's liquid content onto the indicating layer and use the pump to
carefully suck the liquid through the layer. Do not allow any of the ampoule's liquid
content (xylene) to enter the pump. Wait 3 minutes before starting the evaluation.
7.
Verify that the ampoule is completely emptied by comparing with an unused
Draeger-Tube.
8.
Multiply the value by factor F to allow for the actual atmospheric pressure. Observe
possible cross sensitivities
9. Flush the pump with air after operation by removing the Draeger-Tube and taking
3-4 strokes in clean air.
1 ppm methyl mercaptan= 2 mg methyl mercaptan/m

1 mg methyl mercaptan/m = 0.5 ppm methyl mercaptan (at 20 °C, 1013 hPa)
1 ppm ethyl mercaptan= 2.59 mg ethyl mercaptan/m

1 mg ethyl mercaptan/m = 0.39 ppm ethyl mercaptan (at 20 °C, 1013 hPa)

Cross sensitivities
Higher alkyl mercaptans (propyl and butyl mercaptan) are displayed with approx. the
same sensitivity.
Under the influence of H S a mercaptan measurement is not impossible, because

H S is displayed as well with approx. double sensitivity.

Disposal
The Draeger-Tube packaging indicates order number, shelf life, storing temperature
limits and serial number. Dispose of Draeger-Tube in accordance with the local state and
federal regulations. Keep out of reach of children and unauthorized persons.

Utilizar únicamente los tubos de control Dräger cuando
– Se haya entendido completamente este manual de instrucciones (tubos de control
Dräger), así como el manual de instrucciones de la bomba de detección de gases
Dräger,
– Cuando se haya instruido a los usuarios sobre la aplicación técnica del tubo de con-
trol Dräger,
– Cuando se haya realizado un test a los usuarios que demuestre que se domina la
aplicación técnica del tubo de control Dräger.
El contenido del tubo de control Dräger es tóxico/corrosivo. No ingerir. Evitar el con-
tacto con la piel y los ojos.
Utilizar el tubo de control Dräger solo según el uso previsto establecido (ver "uso pre-
visto" a continuación).
Realizar antes de cada medición una prueba de estanqueidad de la bomba de detec-
ción de gases Dräger con un tubo de control Dräger todavía sin utilizar para evitar
cualquier indicación errónea.
Romper las dos puntas del tubo de control Dräger antes de colocar el tubo de control
Dräger en la bomba de detección Dräger, puesto que de lo contrario no es posible
ninguna medición.
Al colocar el tubo de control Dräger, la flecha negra debe apuntar a la bomba de de-
tección de gas Dräger, puesto que de lo contrario no es posible ninguna medición.
El tubo Dräger contiene una ampolla de vidrio rellena de líquido (3), que debe rom-
perse y vaciarse después de cada medición, puesto que de lo contrario no es posible
ninguna medición.
Después de romper la ampolla de gas interna doblando el tubo de control Dräger,
comprobar que la funda protectora del tubo (2) no presente daños. En caso de daño,
no utilizar el tubo de control Dräger.
Para evitar indicaciones de error, utilizar solo los tubos de control Dräger que todavía
no hayan caducado (ver envase) y que hayan sido almacenados según el rango de
temperatura indicado (ver envase).
Emplear únicamente bombas de detección de gas Dräger, puesto que el uso de bom-
bas de otro fabricante puede llevar a error.
Uso previsto
El tubo Dräger sirve para determinar la existencia de etil-mercaptano y metil-mercapta-
no en el aire o en gases técnicos en el momento y lugar de la medición. El tubo de
control Dräger está indicado exclusivamente para la medición puntual.
