• Slide on intermediate cover 19 and lightly tighten
Allen screw 18.
• With the combination screw driver 11, turn ten-
sioning screw 20 (ill. 3), which can be reached
through the bore in the intermediate cover, clock-
wise until the correct chain tension is obtained
(see section 4.3).
• Tighten Allen screw 18 securely. Fold up the bottom
bearing end guard and tighten with screw 5 (ill. 1).
• Release bottom guard flap 15 (ill. 1). Fold up
sprocket cover 12 and tighten cylinder-head
screw 13. Place combination screw driver 11 in
the mounting in the cover.
If a new saw chain has been mounted, this must be
allowed to run in for approx. 2 to 3 minutes at no
load. Make sure that adequate chain lubrication is
present. Once the chain has been run in, it may be
necessary to adjust the chain tension.
3.3

Chain tension

To ensure safe and reliable machine operation and
to increase the life of the chains, it is important that
the chain tension is correctly adjusted. This must
therefore be verified before using it for the first time
and checked regularly during operation. The chain
tension is correctly adjusted if, when cold, the chain
fits against the chain bar and can be lifted off by
hand by some 4 to 5 mm (2/16 to 3/16 in.).
When the chain temperature increases through opera-
tion, the chain stretches and sags. If the expansion is
so large that the coupling links on the bar come out of
the guides, the saw chain must be retightened.
Pull out the mains plug before
retightening the saw chain.
Proceed as follows to retighten the saw chain:
• Open the spring-loaded lower protective cover 15
downwards and slightly loosen the Allen screw 18
(Fig. 2) by means of the combination screw driver
11 attached to the cover 12 through the lower open-
ing in the cover and the screw 5 (Fig. 1).
• Adjust chain tensioning screw 20 through the upper
cover opening (refer to ill. 1) with combination
screw driver 11. Turn clockwise to increase the
chain tension and counter-clockwise to reduce it.
• Securely tighten Allen screw 18. Fold up the
guard for the bottom bearing end and tighten with
screw 5 (ill. 1).
If the saw chain is retightened after becoming warm,
it is essential that it is slackened off after sawing has
been completed. Otherwise the shrinkage of the saw
chain when cooling to ambient temperature can
cause extremely high contraction stresses, particu-
larly if the outside temperatures are very low.
Until it has been stretched, a new saw chain requires
more frequent tension adjustment than a chain that
has been in use for some time.
3.4

Chain lubrication

The correct lubrication of the saw chain is of decisive
importance for the chain's service life. If the chain is
used when dry, the entire chain set will be irrepara-
bly damaged within a short time. The chain is ade-
quately lubricated if traces of oil are visible between
chain and chain bar.
For this reason, it is important to check that the
chain lubrication is working properly and to monitor
the oil level in the lubricant tank each time you wish
to work with the machine. The oil level must not fall
below the mark next to sight glass 14 in cover 12 (ill.
1). Top up the tank only with biodegradable oil. The
oil tank has a capacity of approx. 0.3 litres.
Should you get oil in your eyes
when topping up the tank, rinse out
immediately with plenty of water.
Soak up spilt oil with commercially
available oil binders. Pull out the
mains plug before adjusting the
chain lubrication!
The flow rate of the integrated oil pump can be
adjusted. The normal dose preset at the factory is
evidenced by visible traces of oil between the saw
chain and chain bar. However, if necessary, this set-
ting can be changed as follows:
• Using the combination screw driver 11 provided,
which is mounted on sprocket cover 12 (ill. 1), slacken
off cylinder-head screw 13 and fold down the cover.
• Open spring-loaded bottom guard flap 15 down-
wards and secure with cover in the open position.
• Unscrew and remove Allen screw 18 (ill. 2) and take
off intermediate cover 19 together with the oil tank.
• This gives access to delivery rate metering screw
25 (ill. 4), which serves to adjust the flow rate of
