HARGING
! Allow the Li-BATT battery to cool down to ambient
temperature before recharging !
! Observe the maximum permissible cell temperature
when charging !
The cell temperature must not exceed 40° C when on c harge.
Halt the charge process immediately if the cells over-heat, as
this will reduce their useful life and may cause irreparable
damage. Excessive temperatures can totally ruin the Li-BATT
battery, leaving it in a very dangerous state.
! Never leave Li-BATT packs on charge unsupervised !
! Always charge the battery on a non-flammable surface !
The battery and charger must be placed on a non-flammable,
heat-resistant and electrically non-conductive surface, and left
there for the whole of the charge period (never place them
directly on the car bodywork or seats!). Do not charge the
battery in the vicinity of inflammable and volatile materials.
Suitable extinguishing agent: sand (do not use water!). Sand or
water.
! Use a charger designed specifically for LiPo packs !
For charging the Li-BATT it is essential to use a charger / dis-
charger approved for use with LiPo batteries, together with the
correct type of charge lead; this is the only way of ensuring that
your batteries are correctly charged. LiPo-capable chargers
employ the constant current / constant voltage charge process.
This involves charging the battery initially at the full charge
current until it reaches the maximum permissible final charge
voltage of around 4.2 V per cell. At this point the charger
reduces the charge rate steadily until the pack is fully charged.
! Maintain correct polarity when charging !
Always connect the charge lead to the charger first, and only
then connect the battery to the charge lead. Take care to main-
tain correct polarity!
Red or "+" marking = positive terminal!
Black or "-" marking = negative terminal!
The charge lead must not be left wound up or coiled while the
battery is on charge.
! Use a Balancer / EQUALIZER when charging !
Our LiPo cells are selected and matched at the production
stage, but nevertheless the voltage of the individual cells of your
Li-BATT battery may differ if the pack is used intensively. Using
a balancer or EQUALIZER ensures that all the cells of your Li-
BATT battery are at the same final voltage when the charger
terminates the charge process. Li-BATT batteries can be con-
nected directly to the EQUALIZER port of our MULTIchargers.
A separate adaptor is available for chargers and balancers fitted
with Graupner / robbe compatible balancer connectors:
Balancer Adaptor set for Li-BATT batteries, # 8 6003.
However, you should still check the pin assignment of your
balancer / EQUALIZER, as incorrect polarity could wreck the
battery.
! Be sure to enter the charger settings correctly !
Before you initiate the charge process, check that you have
actually selected your charger's LiPo charge program, and that
you have entered all the necessary settings for the battery type
you are using. Have you set the correct cell count? Is the charge
current set correctly?
Charge current for your Li-BATT battery: maximum 1C !
(C = capacity / hour). This means: the maximum charge current
for a battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh is 2.0 A.
Battery chargers with automatic detection of cell count and / or
charge current may overcharge or even wreck the battery if they
assume incorrect values.
! Disconnect the battery from the charger immediately
after the end of the charge / discharge / equalize process !

ISCHARGING
! Observe the max. permissible cell temperature when
discharging !
The cell temperature must not exceed 60° C when the battery is
being discharged. If the battery tends to overheat, you must
reduce the load on it, or provide for more efficient cooling.
Overheating can cause permanent damage to the battery, and
reduce its effective life and performance. Excessive tem-
peratures can ruin the battery, leaving it in a very dangerous
state.
! Always observe the maximum permissible discharge rate
(C), i.e. the maximum permissible discharge current !
Both values are printed on your Li-BATT pack. It is essential to
avoid discharging your Li-BATT battery at a higher current. The
only way to ensure this is to measure the actual current drain of
your motor, which must not exceed the maximum stated
permissible discharge current. If this is not the case, it may be
necessary to modify your power system to reduce the load.
!
Li-BATT batteries should never be used for high-current
applications until they have been warmed to a temperature of >=
25° C. Below this value the cells may be damaged and inflate.
! Never discharge Li-BATT packs to below 3,6 V per cell !
(measured at rest with no load)
Deep-discharging LiPo cells causes permanent damage to
them, and will render the battery pack unusable.
Speed controllers used with LiPo batteries must feature a low-
voltage cut-off which is set correctly for LiPo batteries. Consult
the instructions, and program the controller to suit the Li-BATT
battery you are using
!
Avoid discharging Li-BATT batteries below a residual
capacity of 20%. Further discharging causes permanent damage
to the batteries. Deep-discharged batteries must not be
recharged or reused.
! Disconnect the Li-BATT pack from the speed controller
immediately after the end of the flight !
This will eliminate the danger of idle currents deep-discharging
your Li-BATT pack!
! If you want your batteries to last even longer:
Whenever possible, lighten the current load on your Li-BATT
pack by reducing the throttle setting slightly.
Another useful ploy is only to discharge your Li-BATT pack to a
residual capacity of around 30%.
8. S
TORAGE
! Always transport and store your Li-BATT batteries in
fireproof, airtight containers. Never store batteries in the
model.
!
Li-BATT batteries should always be stored in dry conditions
at a temperature of around 18 – 20° C.
!
Do not subject Li-BATT batteries to direct sunshine.
! Li-BATT packs should be stored at a voltage of about
3.85 V per cell. Never store them completely discharged or
fully charged.

ECYCLING
Disposal Notes
Do not discard LiPo packs in the domestic waste.
Return defective or exhausted batteries to any retail
outlet for batteries, or to your local authority's toxic
waste collection point.
Discharge batteries before disposing of them. Mask
off bare contacts to ensure that there is no pos-sibility of short-
circuits.
By disposing of your unwanted batteries in the correct manner
you can make an important contribution to the protection of the
environment.
