USER INSTRUCTIONS -
SHORTENING HOOKS GG, OG and GKL
Introduction
The shortening hooks GG, OG and GKL are intended for chain shortening of chain
slings to balance the load. Alternatively the hooks can be used as end components
to hook back to the chain to make a basket lift. The shortening hook GKL (equipped
with safety latch) is ideal also for Grade 8 chain lashing combinations. Domestic
statutory regulations regarding use and maintenance must always be followed.
Use and assembly
GG Grade 10, Grade 8
Assembly with chain
1 Assemble chain, GG and load pin.
2 Fit the retaining pin.
3 Make sure the load pin and retaining pin are properly secured
Use
GG is symmetrical and therefore can be loaded from either side. GG have supporting
lugs on both side of the hook to prevent chain link deformation. Thanks to the
supporting lugs, no reduction of the working load limit is necessary. GG may only be
used with short link chain.
OG Grade 10, Grade 8
Assembly with G-link
1 Join OG together with the two G-link halves and the master link/chain.
2 Place the retaining bush between the G-link halves.
3 Insert the load pin and ensure that the load pin snaps into place.
Use
OG is symmetrical and therefore can be loaded from either side. OG has supporting
lugs on both side of the hook to prevent chain link deformation. Thanks to the
supporting lugs, no reduction of the working load limit is necessary. OG may only be
used with short link chain.
GKL Grade 8
Assembly with chain
1 Assemble chain, GKL and load pin.
2 Fit the retaining pins.
3 Make sure the load pin and retaining pins are properly secured.
Use
GKL gives excellent support and a straight loading of the shortened chain link. GKL is
equipped with a heavy duty recessed safety latch to prevent unintentional release of
the chain. Because GKL is asymmetrical it is important that the shortening and force
direction is made correctly according to the picture. Incorrect loading could result in
bent links or even failure.
Maintenance
Periodic thorough examination must be carried out at least every 12 months or more
frequently according to statutory regulations, type of use and past experience.
Overloaded chain slings must be taken out of service.
Chain and components including load pins which have been damaged, deformed,
elongated, bent or showing signs of cracks or gouges must be replaced. Carefully
grind off small cuts and burrs.
Check the function of hooks, safety latches, load pins and retaining pins/bushes and
replace when necessary.
Always use Gunnebo Lifting original spare parts.
