6. Installation
a) mounting
•
The mounting brackets [5] can be mounted in 3 positions on the side of the device: front,
bottom or back. Place the brackets in front or back position for 19" rack mounting, or in bottom
position for wall mounting.
•
Unscrew both screws that hold each bracket and place the bracket in the desired position.
•
Retighten the screws.
•
Make sure to install the VDPSPxN in a dry location with a normal airflow for sufficient cooling.
b) DMX-512 connections
•
Make sure all devices are switched off and disconnected from the mains before making any
connections.
•
Connect an XLR cable to the female 3-pin XLR output of a controller (not incl.) and the other
side to the male 3- or 5-pin XLR input [1] of the VDPSPxN.
•
To link multiple VDPSPxNs obtain a suitable linking cable (not incl.). Connect the cable to the
female (=out) DMX Tru connector [8] of the VDPSPxN and the other end to the male (=in)
DMX in connector [1].
Notes:
•
Do not use both 3-pin and 5-pin input or output simultaneously.
•
The linking cable should be a dual core, screened cable with XLR input and output
connectors.
•
Maximum recommended serial data link distance is 500 meters (1640 ft). Maximum
recommended number of fixtures on a serial data link is 32 fixtures.
•
On the last VDPSPxN in the chain, enable the DMX terminator by pressing the terminator
button [3]. The terminator prevents corruption of the digital control signal by electrical noise.
•
Connect your DMX devices (not incl.) to the female output ports [7] at the back of the
VDPSPxN.
VDPSP4N: only use either the 3-pin or 5-pin output connector of an output channel; never
connect DMX devices to both output ports at the same time.
Note: every last device on a DMX chain connected to an output [7] of the VDPSPxN must get
its own terminator. The DMX terminator is simply an XLR plug with a 120Ω resistor between
pins 2 and 3, which is then plugged into the XLR output socket of the last device in the chain.
7. Operation
•
Have a qualified electrician carry out the electrical connection.
•
Connect the device to the mains with the power plug. All fixtures must be powered directly off a
grounded switched circuit and cannot be run off a rheostat or dimmer circuit, even if the rheostat
or dimmer channel is used solely for 0% to 100% switch.
•
When all connections are made and verified, switch on the VDPSPxN with the ON/OFF switch
[4].
•
The red LEDs [2] switch on when the DMX output channels are powered; the green LEDs [2]
indicate the presence of a DMX signal on the indicated channel.
