3.2 General safety instructions

CAUTION
Incorrect alignment, assembly or adjustment
Risk of injury due to change in or loss of functionality
► Assembly, adjustment and maintenance operations may only be com­
pleted by qualified personnel.
► Observe the alignment, assembly and adjustment instructions.
CAUTION
Improper handling
Risk of falling due to accidentally opening or engaging the lock
► Avoid accidentally opening or engaging the lock.
► Instruct the patient in the correct handling of the orthosis joints.

4 Preparation for use

4.1 Installation of the 170D71 3-phase switch in the 170K1 Free
Walk orthosis
1) Remove the joint protector.
2) Remove the lock rings from the two lower lock axes.
3) Push out the two lower lock axes.
4) Insert the 3-phase switch. In doing so, guide the groove in the 3-phase
switch (see fig. 1) over the head of the bolt and push the 3-phase switch
in the direction of the orthosis.
5) Insert the new lock axes into the orthosis knee joint from the medial side
(see fig. 2).
6) Insert the lock rings from the lateral side.

4.2 Functional test

To verify technically correct functionality, take the foot section in one hand
and the femoral section in the other:
Free Walk mode
>
The 3-phase switch is in the upper position.
► Push the orthosis ankle joint in the dorsiflexion direction and extend the
orthosis knee joint.
→ The lock disengages automatically and the orthosis knee joint can
be flexed.
