The operation of Dräger gas measuring devices with the Rubberball Pump
requires a full understanding and strict observation of the Instructions for Use of
the Dräger gas measuring device used.
Purpose
Rubberball Pump (order no. 68 01 933) for the manual measured gas supply of the
Dräger gas measuring device (maximum length of the hose: 20 m).
– Displaced volume approx. 40 mL.
– Operating temperature range 0 to 55
Before operation
Perform leak test:
Seal the long hose end (e.g. by kinking the hose) and squeeze the Rubberball.
– The Rubberball must remain in this squeezed shape.
Leaks may lead to incorrect measurements and thus to the misjudgement of
dangers. In the case of leaks: Check the hose connections or replace the Rubber-
ball Pump.
Connecting the Rubberball Pump to the gas measuring device
Provide a suitable adapter for the Rubberball Pump on the gas measuring device –
see the Instructions for Use of the gas measuring device used.
Connect the short hose end to the adapter. Make sure that the flow direction
(markings on the hose and on the Rubberball) is correct.
If the flow direction is incorrect upon installation, this may lead to incorrect
measurements and thus to the misjudgement of dangers.
Connect a sampling hose or a measuring probe to the long hose end. Example:
Dräger X-am 2000 with manual pump adapter (order no. 83 19 195), Rubberball
Pump and telescopic probe.

Operation
Supply the gas measuring device with measured gas by operating the Rubberball
Pump (pump frequency: approx. 1 stroke per second).
Wait until the flushing time and the sensor response time have elapsed before
taking the measurement. Otherwise, the measured values of the gas measuring
device will not be reliable.
Prior to every measurement, flush the components to be used for the measured gas
supply (Rubberball Pump, sampling hose or Dräger probes), with the air sample to
be measured.
– A flushing phase is necessary to eliminate or minimise all effects associated with the
use of a sampling hose or a probe, e.g. memory effects, dead volume.
– The duration of the flushing phase depends on factors such as type and
concentration of the gas or vapour to be measured, material, length, diameter, and
age of the sampling hose or probe. Generally, when using a sampling hose (brand
new, dry, clean), a typical flushing time of approx. 3 seconds is required for each
meter. This flushing time applies in addition to the sensor response time (see the
corresponding Instructions for Use).
Example:
In the case of a sampling hose with a length of 10 m, the flushing time is approx.
30 seconds and the sensor response time is approx. an additional 60 seconds
(assumed for example calculation). Therefore, the total time before reading the gas
measuring device is approx. 90 seconds.
If a flow rate alarm is installed, it is delayed by 10 to 30 seconds depending on the
length of the hose.
