B. HOW TO DON THE RESPIRATOR
1. The following directions are the proper way to ensure a good respirator fit:
a. Inspect the respirator as described in section G.
b. Gently pull the lower neck strap away from neck to attach clasps.
c. Position the bottom of the facepiece as low as possible under the chin
while positioning the narrow portion of the facepiece on the bridge of the
nose.
d. Position the cradle headband above the ears so that it straddles the crown
of your head.
e. Pull on the lower straps just below the yoke to tighten the strap around
your neck.
f. Complete the adjustment of the upper straps by pulling each strap from
the yoke. Adjust the headband straps for a leak-tight fit, but do not over-
tighten the straps.
C. HOW TO FIT CHECK THE RESPIRATOR
You must perform the following fit check each time the respirator is worn or before
entering the contaminated area.
If you cannot obtain a leak-tight fit, do not use the respirator.
Consult your supervisor or safety professional.
1. Positive Pressure Fit Check:
a. Hold the palm of your hand gently over the exhalation valve outlet. Do not
distort the natural shape of the facepiece.
b. Exhale gently and hold your breath to create and maintain a slight positive
pressure inside the face-piece.
c. If air leakage occurs, readjust the facepiece and headbands, then retest
(create and maintain a slight positive pressure inside the facepiece).
d. If air leakage occurs, readjust the facepiece and headbands, then retest.
2. Negative Pressure Fit Check:
a. Cover the inlet of the cartridges and/or filters with the palms of your hands or
another suitable item, such as a thin sheet of plastic or rubber. Filter retainers
may be used as an aid.
b. Inhale gently and hold your breath to slightly collapse the facepiece.
c. If air leakage occurs, readjust the facepiece and headbands, then retest.
