2 Setting Up and
Connecting D.A.R.T
Connect the cord that carries the signal from your
mixing console (from its Monitor Out or Line Out, or
a similar labeled output jack) to the balanced Line In.
Use a cord equipped with standard XLR microphone
connectors to do this. Make sure the XLR connectors
have the following pin assignments:
pin 1 = ground, 2 = +, 3 = -.
Connect the cord carrying the signal from your CD player
or tape deck (CD Out, Tape Out, or a similarly labeled
output jack) to the CD/Tape In jack of the D.A.R.T.
Use a cord equipped with RCA phono connectors
to do this.
If you want to connect a microphone directly to
D.A.R.T without plugging into a mixing console, simply
plug an XLR microphone cord into the balanced
Mic In. Make sure the XLR connectors have the
following pin assignments:
pin 1 = ground, 2 = +, 3 = -.

3 Operating the System Safely

Make sure the Power On switch is set to the
Off position.
Caution! Before you plug D.A.R.T into a wall outlet,
ensure your local mains voltage matches the specifica-
tion indicated on the device's rear panel. Connecting
D.A.R.T to the wrong mains voltage can result in the
destruction of its electronic components!
Turn the Gain knobs (Gain Line In and Gain Mic) all
the way down (counterclockwise as far as the knobs
will go).
Before powering up D.A.R.T, make sure all other
connected components are turned on first. Every-
thing connected to the mixing console that feeds a
signal into it, such as keyboards, instrument amps,
effects, and so forth, should be switched on first,
then the mixing console, and finally D.A.R.T (and
if D.A.R.T is serving as a monitor, then the main
PA amplifier/s).
Only then should you begin to turn up the Gain from
zero to whatever level you need. The preferred level
when you connect a mixing console to D.A.R.T is to
set the Gain Line In knobs to the center or 12 o'clock
position (= 0 dBV). If you connect a CD player or a
keyboard directly to the D.A.R.T – depending on input
signal level – turn the GAIN knob clockwise all the
way to the far right to achieve maximum volume.
When powering down your system, always turn the
volume back down to zero and switch D.A.R.T off
first, and then proceed to switch off all connected
devices.

4 Settings

Gain Line In Knob
If the signal is distorted or saturated, first check the
signal source and, if possible, reduce the output
signal level there.
If the signal that you are routing to D.A.R.T cannot
be adjusted at the source, adjust D.A.R.T's power
amp by backing off the Gain Line In knob.
Gain Mic In Knob
Twist this knob to adjust the volume of the microphone.
Note: You can adjust the microphone and line
inputs separately and mix them as desired. If the
signal is distorted or saturated, turn down the
Gain Mic In knob.
Ground Lift Switch
If you encounter low frequency hum, activate the
Ground Lift switch. The ground circuit is severed
when you press the button. If this doesn't work,
check all cords connected to D.A.R.T and all signals
routed to the mixing console until you pinpoint
the problem.
Caution! Never tape over the AC plug's ground
terminal – this endangers lives!
EQ
Adjust the sound as desired using the active two-band
tone controls. High boosts and cuts treble frequencies,
Low boosts and cuts bass frequencies.
