INSPECTION REQUIRED BEFORE USE
SECTION 2.0 INSTALLATION:
regulations, including American National Standards Institute and/or OSHA Regulations, which may apply
to use of manually powered chain hoist in your application. Familiarize operators and personnel
responsible for hoist installation and service with ASME B30.16 specifications and this manual prior to
placing unit into service. All requirements of this specification, including testing should be met before
approving hoist for operation.
New, Altered or Modified Hoist
Prior to initial use, Inspect and test by personnel trained in safety, operation and maintenance of this type
equipment, to ensure safe operation at rated working load capacity before placing into service. {See
inspection section in this manual}
Before using the hoist
1. Insure all previous warnings are obeyed and the load to be lifted is less than the WLL Working Load
Limit.
2. Attach the top hook to a sufficient structure or rigging to handle the load capacity of the hoist and
make sure the hook latch is closed. The hoist may be used in any orentation as long a
unrestriced straight line is formed between hooks.
3. Check that the load chain is sufficient length to lower the load without pulling against the slack side
anchor stop (17). The anchor stop is not intended to prevent chain from pulling out of the hoist when
loaded and force is applied by hand to lower the load.
4. Looking at the hand chain end of the hoist, pull on the left hand chain to lower the hook or pull on the
right hand chain to raise the hook. Attach the hook to the load by hand.
Lift the load
1. Looking at the hand chain end of the hoist, pull on the right hand chain to raise the load. Always
raise the load a fraction of an inch then stop to check the holding ability of the brake then continue
the lift.
Lower or Release the Load
1. Looking at the hand chain end of the hoist, pull on the left hand chain to lower the hook or pull on the
right hand chain to raise the hook. Do not continue to lower the hoist if the chain length is too
short and there is no slack at the connection to anchor stop (17). Damage to the hoist and
loss of load may result.
1. Always store the hoist in a no-load condition.
2. Wipe off all dirt and water and hang in a dry place.
3. Oil the chain, hook pins and hook latch pins.
4. Before returning hoist to service follow instructions for "Hoists not in Regular Service"' under
"INSPECTION"
Inspections required per ASME B30 and OSHA
Inspection Records (when required)
Inspections are the responsibility of a qualified person designated by the owner. Dated inspection reports
shall be maintained for the service life of the hoist. They are to be filed by the serial number, stamped
into the unit, and made available for inspection at any time.
If any fault is discovered, during any inspection, then the unit shall be taken out of service and
quarantined. A qualified person shall then make determination of repair or disposition.
Initial inspection of new unit or a unit that has not been in use for more than 1 month is required
prior to use and must be recorded. The inspection shall consist of:
a)
Load test, of new units, is not required as they were tested at the factory. The test certification
supplied should be filed with the initial inspection report. The date of this initial inspection
report will become the start date for entering a new unit into service and determining timing of
future periodic inspections.
