The knob-to-lever conversion ball is designed for use in Delta faucets which
originally contained the RP212, or "diamond stem" ball and a knob handle.
This ball kit converts the existing knob handle installation over to accept
the Delta lever handle. It is designed for normal installations where the hot
supply line is on the left and the cold on the right when you are facing the
NOTE: Lever handle is not included in RP20111 and must be purchased
separately. Order either RP17443 - Chrome, RP17443 PB - Polished

TO REPLACE CONVENTIONAL BALL WITH THE CONVERSION BALL
PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:
1. Turn off water supply to the shower valve or lavatory faucet.
2. Pry off handle button (1), remove screw (2) and pull off knob handle (3).
Discard old knob handle, button and screw.
3. Loosen adjusting ring (4), then unscrew cap assembly (5) and remove.
Discard adjusting ring.
4. Remove cam and packing (6) by pulling on the stem of the ball (7).
Discard cam and packing. RP20111 - Leave the black rubber seats and
metal springs installed in the valve. RP54870 - The old seats & springs
(10) can be replaced with new seats and springs (11) included with
RP54870.
5. Place the conversion ball (8) in the valve body with the single large hole
side of the ball down on tub/shower (stem flat facing down) and to the
front on lavatory models (stem fIat facing towards the front).
CAUTION: IF THE BALL IS INSTALLED WITH THE LARGE SINGLE
HOLE SIDE, UP IN TUB/SHOWER MODELS, TO THE BACK IN
LAVATORY MODELS, IT WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. INSTALLED
IMPROPERLY, THE VALVE CAN SUPPLY HOT WATER WHEN THE USER
EXPECTS COLD WATER, CAUSING A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS
SITUATION. ALSO, IN THIS SITUATION, THE SET SCREW IN THE
HANDLE WILL NOT PROPERLY BITE INTO THE FLAT ON THE BALL
STEM TO PROPERLY RETAIN THE HANDLE.

valve. For shower valves, this allows the lever handle to point to the proper
temperature as indicated on the existing escutcheon. For lavatories, the

the body.
7. Install matching finish, NEW STYLE lever handle (RP17443, RP17443PB
or RP17443WH) [NOTE: Because of the special operation of this
conversion, Delta does NOT recommend using the old style lever handle.)
Make sure set screw in handle bites into flat section of stem to properly
retain handle.
8. IMPORTANT: Flush the system, (remove aerator (12) on lavatory
installations) turn handle to the full on mixed position. Turn on water
supplies, check for leaks and let lines flush for one minute without moving
faucet handle. This will remove debris from lines which can damage
internal parts of faucet and create leaks. After flushing, shut
off faucet and replace aerator on lavatory installations.
9. Verify that hot water comes out of the valve when the lever handle is
turned fully clockwise.
CAUTION: IF FUTURE MAINTENANCE IS NECESSARY AND YOU
MUST REPLACE THE CONVERSION BALL, MAKE SURE YOU
REPLACE IT WITH AN IDENTICAL VERSION RP20111 ONLY! YOU
CANNOT REPLACE IT WITH A STANDARD DELTA RP70 BALL
BECAUSE THE VALVE WILL FUNCTION IMPROPERLY AND MAY
CAUSE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
