Series 300 Zone Display Unit
General description
The 300 series Zone Display Unit is a transparent module directly connected to the Control Panel and requires no external power supply. The
ZDU works with the 300 series detector range. When a detector goes into Alarm the panel will indicate the status. The ZDU then keeps the panel
latched in alarm, and disconnects the detectors from the panel in order to communicate with them. The ZDU behaves like a detector in Alarm so
that the Control Panel continues to warn of the Alarm and communicates with the detectors in order to obtain and display the addresses of those
detectors in Alarm.
The ZDU will also detect and display a short circuit fault on the detection cabling, see Display section.
Note: The Control Panel current limiting resistance plus Rin must
be within the limits specified in the Electrical Specification

Wall Mounting
The S300ZDU backbox can be mounted to a standard electrical backbox, providing flexibility of mounting options and allowing the unit to be
mounted unobtrusively.

Total Series Resistance ( Control Panel current limiting plus series resistor Rin ) must be at least 270 ohms, or damage to the ZDU
The S300ZDU requires a resistor EOL device to terminate the line. Check the panel manufacturer's recommendations for the correct value.
Display
The Zone Display Unit is equipped with a 4 Digit Display that can show the following information:
In normal operation the display shows a dark segment rotating clockwise.
The S300ZDU is responding to Multiple Alarms. A Dot before the address in the display denotes the address of the first, or
only, Detector to Alarm. The display will cycle alternately between the addresses in alarm. Note: Depending upon the
combined resistance of the Control Panel and the resistor connected in the S300ZDU, the number of detectors in alarm that can
be displayed is limited to a maximum of four.
The S300ZDU has detected a second or subsequent alarm condition on the circuit and the relevant detector's address is
displayed.
The S300ZDU has responded to an Alarm condition but can not determine the source. It could for example be a Manual Call
Point.
If the Zone Display Unit detects a short circuit ( SC ) on the detection circuit, it isolates the line and checks every 10 seconds
to see if the short circuit has been removed. If the line short circuit is no longer present, the S300ZDU switches on the line and
exhibits normal status to the Control Panel and the display returns to normal. Note that this may be displayed as an open circuit
on the control panel (see manufacturer's documentation)
If the initialising Calibration Fails, ( CA ) is displayed. The S300ZDU cannot differentiate between some faults caused by the
Control Panel, the wiring, or an internal failure.

the front cover to the backbox.
Note: Ensure entry of the wiring into the S300ZDU through the circular knock out on the rear of
the backbox is completed before mounting the S300ZDU backbox to the wall.
Wiring
The value of the resistor between Terminals B and C, see Figure 3, combined with the Control
Panel current limiting resistance must be within the limits specified in the Electrical
Specification. See control panel manufacturers documentation. ( ** )If no resistor is
required, simply use terminal C as +ve IN.
The S300ZDU PCB is also equipped with a configuration jumper, see Figure 3, that will
allow the unit to work with a wide serial resistor range. This jumper has to be closed
when the total serial resistance is less than or equal to 560 Ohm.
The total number of detector addresses capable of being displayed in alarm at any one time
will depend on the control panel characteristics and the resistor across terminals B and C.
See panel documentation for details.
Note: If the S300ZDU is being added as an upgrade to an existing installation of series 300
detectors, bases fitted with a schottky diode will not cause any problems but bases fitted with
a resistor will need to have the resistor wired out to prevent communication problems. Refer
to the Control Panel manufacturer's instructions regarding current limiting.
Wiring terminals are of the screw clamp type and capable of accomodating wire sizes
0.4mm² to 2.0mm², see figure 3
