Motion detector
How it works
The motion detector works based on passive infrared
technology. Via a PIR sensor, the detector notices any heat
sources moving within its fi eld of detection and switches
on automatically. Static heat sources do not trigger it. The
adjustable twilight switch lets you choose whether you have
the motion detector working day and night or only when it is
dark. The integrated timer also lets you adjust how long the
light stays on.
Safety information
To be fi tted by qualifi ed electricians only, observing all
standard national installation regulations.
No work to be carried out while live. Circuit trip switch
must therefore be switched off.
Check to make sure the connecting cable is not live!
All warranty claims will be null and void in the event of
any damage or loss caused by failure to observe these
operating instructions. We accept no liability for any
consequential losses or damage. We accept no liabili-
ty for any personal injury or material damage caused by
improper use or by failure to observe the safety advice. In such
cases all warranty claims will be null and void. For reasons of
safety and CE approval, no unauthorised conversion and/or
modifi cation of the appliance is allowed.
Where to install
The light is best at detecting movement when this is at right
angles to the motion detector.
Motion detectors should
therefore always be set up so that likely movement is not
directly towards them.
Installing the motion detector
Fit the motion detector as per fi gs. A - E. External /

corner plinth (fi g. F). Wire up the mains connection cable
as per circuit diagram (fi g. D). You can use PE + N + L' to
connect another consumer unit, e.g. a light, or similar.
Switch the circuit trip switch back on.
Test mode / Motion test
Test mode starts up whenever power is applied. Set the
external SENS and TIME controls to 12m and 'Minimum'
respectively (fi gs. G, H, L).
If the motion detector is
connected via a separate switch, switch it on. A self-test
lasting 30 seconds now begins. The attached consumer
unit is on throughout this time. When the unit goes out,
the motion test begins. Whenever there is movement, the
unit will now switch on for c. 9 seconds, regardless of how
bright it is in the surrounding area. The time begins when
there is any movement from the front. The motion test ends
automatically c. 1 minute after no more movement is
detected, and the sensor switches automatically to
monitoring mode, i.e. automatic operation.
The test mode helps you to set the desired fi eld of detection
for your individual requirements. The motion detector can be
horizontally adjusted (fi g. G). The range can be limited using
the two external controls (SENS). Each control covers an
angle of 90° (fi g. H).
The angle of detection can be
limited using an attachable screen, which can be cut to size
(fi g. I). After the test mode has been run, you can make the
other settings.
Settings (fi gs. H, L)
SENS Detection range setting, c. 3 – 12m. Each control
covers an area of 90°.
LUX Twilight switch, c. 5 - 1000 Lux
TIME Sets how long the light stays on, c. 5 secs. - 12 mins.
DUSK TIME (to switch on see next section) Time setting for
permanent light / holiday mode, c. 1 - 8 hours
Permanent / holiday mode
Note: To work, appliance must be operated via a switch, be
on (switch is on) and in automatic mode.
Permanent light mode
You activate 'Permanent light mode' by quickly turning the
switch off and on twice.
The motion detector switches on and stays on when dusk
falls and the preset darkness level is reached, regardless
of any movement. The length of time to stay on can be
selected using the 'DUSK TIME' adjuster. After this time,
automatic mode resumes.
Holiday mode:
You activate 'Holiday mode' by quickly turning the switch
off and on three times. The motion detector switches on
each day when dusk falls and the preset darkness level is
reached, regardless of any movement. The length of time to
stay on can be selected using the 'DUSK TIME' adjuster.
Automatic mode is resumed by manually switching quickly
off and on once.
Troubleshooting – Practical tips
Problem
Cause
Motion detector switches
• Detection range setting
the light on too late
• Movement from the front
Motion detector fails to
• Motion detector is mounted too low
achieve maximum range
• Difference in temperature between heat source and
surroundings is not big enough
Motion detector switches
• Constant thermal movement:
light on constantly
There are areas within detection range that are
or when not necessary
not supposed to be monitored, e.g. footpaths, roads,
trees etc. Unexpected changes in heat sources
caused by storms, rain or fans.
The infl uence of direct / indirect sunlight.
Fails to react to vehicles
• Vehicle has not warmed up
• Engine area is very well insulated

Note for both modes:
Regardless of the preset time, the motion detector switches
off as soon as the preset dusk level is exceeded, i.e. when
it gets light. 'Permanent light' or 'Holiday mode' can be
cancelled by switching quickly off and on once. The motion
detector then returns to normal, automatic operation.
The product is supplied with a small sticker to remind you
how everything works.
Remedy
• Adjust detection area by
area by turning the sensor
• Mount higher
• Set SENS control to 12m
Subject to technical and
design changes without
prior notice.
