Tips for Safe Operation
Rope Size
5/32"
3/16"
7/32"
Do not expose rope to chemicals or heat sources.
Avoid prolonged exposure of synthetic rope to ultraviolet rays from sunlight
which can degrade rope strength over time. Use a winch cover to protect
winch and rope when not in use.
Any sharp bends in the rope under load decreases its strength substantially
and may cause premature damage or failure. Sheave diameters on
rotating snatch blocks should be at least 10 times the rope diameter (1.6"
for 5/32" rope and 2.0" for 3/16" rope).
Avoid pulling rope over rough surfaces or sharp edges. Slide the protective
sleeve along the length of the rope to place it at a location where the rope
would encounter rough surfaces such as rock or tree branches.
See Rope Inspection, for information on when to replace the synthetic
rope.
Note:
•
Rope must be installed so that it feeds from the bottom of the drum.
•
A roller fairlead, P/N 69373 (ATV) or PN 82550 (UTV), is recommended
for use with the synthetic rope. Aluminum alloy hawse fairleads may
also be used with these ropes.
•
Before installing synthetic rope, inspect winch drum and smooth any
sharp edges on drum barrel, fl anges and other winch accessories
that may contact the rope.
•
The roller fairlead must be replaced if it has been used with a wire
rope. Wire ropes abrade the roller surface, which will damage
synthetic rope.
•
Never use something to secure rope end to winch drum that could
damage rope that is wrapped over it.
•
Do not hook rope back onto itself or tie knots in rope.

1. Follow instructions above to install rope.
2. The cut end of the rope should pass all the way through drum and then
back to the opening it was inserted in.
3. If rope end becomes too frayed to pass through the drum twice, a section
of the rope may be secured by a minimum of fi ve wraps. Approximately
2-3 inches of rope can be held along the length of the drum. Carefully
spool fi rst fi ve wraps over the rope such that the wraps are perpendicular
to 2-3 inch rope section.
4. Power winch rope in carefully. Keeping tension on end of rope, spool all
of the rope onto the drum, taking care to form neatly wrapped layers.
Maintenance
The most important part of maintenance of the synthetic rope is to inspect
it regularly. Any time the winch is used, the synthetic rope should be
inspected thoroughly as described on the opposite page.
Likewise, inspect the protective sleeve and replace if it becomes torn,
fused or threadbare.
