Intended Product Use
CoxaFlex® was developed in order to
treat hip dysplasia and luxation more
effetively and more safely. It helps control
the growth of the cartilaginous and bony
articulation partners, and specifically sup-
ports the ideal shaping of the hip joint.
CoxaFlex® resulted from the close coope-
ration of physicians and technicians and
will foster the subsequent development
of the hip joint when applied correctly.
As with many disorders, the prospects of
a complete recovery of the dysplastic hip
will improve if the defect is detected and
treated early on.
When treated within the first days and
weeks of life, regular dysplasia can usually
be healed within a few weeks. Dysplasia
stemming from a preceding luxation,
however, usually takes several months of
orthotic treatment to heal.
Constant and regular control examinations
(at first every 2 to 3 days) are as much part

of a good treatment plan as a professio-
nally fitted and correctly applied orthosis.
Therefore, the close cooperation of physici-
ans, technicians and parents is indispensa-
ble for the patient's healthy future.
Newborns and infants show a high
degree of strong, reflexive, pedalling leg
movements. Thus, children subconsciously
reject any form of restriction to their
mobility, and might show some resistance
against the splint until fully accustomed
to the new orthosis.
Should a patient seem to cry out of pain
for an unusually long period of time,
remove the orthosis and go to see a phy-
sician so the proper fit of the splint and
the stability of the joints can be checked.
Children wearing the splint should prefe-
rably sleep on their backs.
