For your safety, comply strictly with the instructions for use, verification, maintenance and storage.
KRATOS SAFETY cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect accident occurring following use other than that provided for in these instructions;
do not use this equipment beyond its limits!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND PRECAUTIONS:
The KRATOS SAFETY pilot chair is an accessory for lifting people as they travel between workstations. It does not constitute PPE against falls from
height. This lifting accessory must be combined with a lifting device for people (such as a winch) and a complete fall arrest system. The pilot chair
must never be used on its own, it must be combined with a fall arrest harness. It is designed to hold workers in a comfortable position while they are
working, and when ascending/descending. To be used in perfect safety, the pilot chair must be used by a trained and competent user. It must only be
used by one person at a time.
Installation:
Attach the pilot chair on suitable lifting devices and equipment, and take position in the pilot chair after having first put on your fall arrest harness,
then buckle the pilot chair's waist strap, remembering to pass it through the leg straps, and adjust. In a place free from risk of falling, check that the
set-up enables the user to remain in balance and that they can ascend/descend normally. Install the fall arrest system once the above actions have been
completed, and attach it to the user's fall arrest harness (preferably to the back). Double check that the pilot chair can ascend/descend normally, and that
the fall arrest system does not interfere with these movements.
For greater comfort, the pilot chair can be used with spreader bar FA 70 007 01. In all circumstances, it must be attached to the lifting device using
connectors (EN362). Regularly check that the connectors are screwed tightly.
Check that the different pieces of equipment used do not prevent each other working normally.
Always make sure that your body is held at 90° to ensure good balance when working suspended at height.
Make sure that the work is done in such a way as to limit the pendulum effect, as well as the risk and the height of a fall. For safety reasons, before each
use, make sure that no obstacle can prevent the device unwinding normally in the event of a fall (free space under the user's feet). The minimum clearance
below the user's feet must be at least: see fall arrest system instructions.
Before and during use, we recommend that you make the necessary arrangements for a safe rescue, should this be required.
This equipment must only be used by trained, competent and healthy persons or under the supervision of a trained and competent person. Warning!
Certain medical conditions may affect user safety; if in doubt, consult your doctor.
Before each use, check the condition of the pilot chair: visual inspection in order to check the condition of the straps (no start of cuts, burns, unusual
shrinkage), seams (no visible damage) and metal parts (no deformation or oxidation) as well as to verify that the connectors are working properly
(opening/locking), and that the pilot chair is not damaged. The readability of the product's markings must also be checked.
If any defects are found or suspected, the pilot chair should not be reused. After a fall, the product must not be reused and must be marked "OUT OF
SERVICE" (see the "VERIFICATION" section). This product is not designed to be reused when damaged.
Do not remove, add or replace any component of the pilot chair.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Strap material: polyester and/or polyamide. Buckle material: treated steel. Pilot chair internal reinforcement: Wood.
Maximum load: 140kg
Static test coefficient: 1.5, applied by the manufacturer to verify its suitability for use in its different usage configurations.
COMPATIBILITY FOR USE:
The pilot chair must be used as part of a complete system for lifting people, and MUST be combined with a fall arrest system as defined in the product's
factsheet (EN363). A fall arrest harness (EN361) is the only body support device that may be used. It can be dangerous to create one's own fall protection
system in which each safety function can interfere with another safety function. Therefore, it is important to read the recommendations on using each
component in the system before use.
INSPECTION:
The recommended service life of the equipment is 10 years from the date it is first used (in accordance with the annual examination by a competent
person), but it may be increased or reduced according to use and/or the results of annual inspections.
Before using the pilot chair for the first time, and before any subsequent use (change of site or configuration), the pilot chair must be inspected
to ensure that it is fit for purpose (check that it is compatible with the various lifting systems that will be used and the task to be carried out, as
well as the risks to which the worker is exposed. Check that the planned work is compatible with the pilot chair's conditions of use as described
in these instructions).
Every 12 months (or whenever concerns arise or following a fall), the pilot chair should undergo an in-service thorough examination by a
competent person (detailed visual inspection to reveal any deterioration of straps, stitching, and connectors - see section on "Before each use").
Whenever using the pilot chair at a new site or in a new configuration, and in addition to the fit-for-purpose checks, the pilot chair must have been
subjected to an in-service thorough examination within the past six months.
The inspections described above must be recorded in writing in the company's safety log. We also recommend that the date of the next inspection is
marked on the product.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE: (These instructions must be strictly observed)
During transportation, keep the pilot chair away from any sharp edges and keep it in its packaging. Clean with soap and water, wipe with a dry cloth and
hang in a ventilated room to dry naturally, ensuring that it is away from any direct light or source of heat; the same applies for elements that may have
become wet during use. The metal parts will be wiped with a cloth impregnated with paraffin oil. Bleaches and detergents are strictly prohibited. The
pilot chair should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space in its packaging, away from direct sunlight, heat, and chemical products.
Under no circumstances should this pilot chair be seen as a fall arrest system.
