GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER SENSING MODULE
PRE-INSTALLATION
1. NOTICE: For installation by a qualified person in accordance with national and local electrical codes and the
following instructions.
2. CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. Disconnect power before installing. Never wire energized electrical
components.
3. Check to insure that the device's type and rating are suitable for the application. The GFCI Sensing Module must be
installed with an Hubbell GFSMCB Series Circuit Breaker (50A Max.) with a shunt coil, auxiliary switch and handle
in the same pole to be a UL recognized assembly.
4. CAUTION: USE COPPER CONDUCTORS ONLY. DO NOT TIN CONDUCTORS.
5. CAUTION: Intended for use where the neutral is connected to earth ground. Where portable generator applications
do not require the neutral to be connected to earth ground, the neutral to the load shall be interrupted upon ground
fault detection by a Hubbell GFSMCB-series circuit breaker having a sufficient number of poles.
6. HOSPITAL APPLICATIONS: Ground fault circuit interrupters should not be used in CRITICAL CARE PATIENT
AREAS or for LIFE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS because of the possibility of power interruption.
7. WARNING: A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a safety device intended for normal use and not intended to
promote activity of elevated risk.
8. WARNING: This GFCI should not be used as a main switch to connect or disconnect power.
9. WARNING: A GFCI will not protect against electrical shock resulting from a defect or fault in the power supply to the
interrupter. This GFCI will not protect against shock resulting from personal contact with both sides of the electrical
output from the interrupter.
10. To minimize nuisance tripping, do not use this device on swimming pool equipment installed before the 1965 NEC
requirements.
11. A GFCI is a device designed to interrupt power when a ground fault exceeds 6 milliamperes. (0.006A) The interruption
of power is fast to prevent injuries. The human body will conduct electricity. Any electrical apparatus is a potential
shock hazard, especially when used near wet locations. A GFCI constantly monitors the current balance of the
conductors supplying power to the load. When a ground fault occurs by leakage or shock, the imbalance of current
is sensed and the GFCI will trip.
INSTALLATION
1. NOTICE: The GFCI Sensing Module must be installed with a Hubbell GFSMCB Series Circuit Breaker (50A Max.).
2. Connect the GFCI as shown in Figure 1.
3. Mount the GFCI sensing module and circuit breaker in the outlet box or panel.
4. For outdoor or wet and damp locations, position the mounting gasket around the face of the sensing module.
5. Place the test instruction label in close proximity to the ground fault sensing module.
OPERATION AND TEST INSTRUCTIONS
NOTE: Automatic versions (A suffix) will immediately supply power to the load when plugged in.
Manual versions (M suffix) must be reset manually before power is applied to the load.
Normal Operating State: Sensing module green LED is ON and circuit breaker is at position ON,
1. Press RESET button on manual models. The green "power" LED should be ON.
2. Press TEST button: green LED should turn OFF, red LED should start blinking. Circuit breaker should trip to OFF
position.
3. If sensing module LEDs do not change or circuit breaker does not trip, DO NOT USE THIS DEVICE. Consult a
qualified electrician for assistance.
4. Press RESET button: red LED should turn OFF and green LED should turn ON.
5. Manually reset circuit breaker to ON position to restore circuit power.
6. Do not use this device if it fails any portion of the above tests. Consult a qualified electrician for repair or
replacement.
CAUTION: Manual configuration should be specified when automatic power-up of the GFCI would create an unsafe
condition after restoration of circuit power.
