1.
Locate and remove the m12 bolt from the bracket on the frame rail using a17mm socket, one each side. Return to vehicle owner.
2.
Locate the holes at each end of the crossmember. Enlarge the hole using an 11/16" drill. Insert rivet nut into enlarged hole.
3.
Raise the hitch into postion, loosely install the m12 x 40mm bolt and conical washer (teeth side against hitch) with 2 of the 1/4" x 1 x 2 spacers sandwiched between the bracket and
the hitch, repeat each side.
4.
To install rivet nut in crossmember, hold hitch tight against the crossmember while tightening the 1/2"-13 hex bolt, conical toothed washer (teeth side toward the hitch) & rivet nut
to 50 lb-ft (68 N*M). This will seat the rivet nut. Tip: If the rivet nut spins in the hole and not tighten, place a 1/2" lockwasher between the hitch and the rivet nut and torque to 50
Lb-ft to seat the rivet nut. Then loosen the bolt and remove the lockwasher & reinstall the 1/2"-13 hex bolt and conical tooth washer (teeth side toward hitch).
5.
Tighten all 1/2" fasteners with torque wrench to 50Lb.-Ft. (68 N*M) and all M12 fasteners to 76 Lb-ft (103 N*M)
Proper torque is needed to keep the hitch secure to the vehicle when towing.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or
ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch.
