The CRP-1 Crown Race Puller is designed to quickly and easily remove the headset crown
race from the fork's crown race seat and steering column.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Turn large handle (#1004-2) until pressing disc (#1164)
inside main tube (#1162) will clear length of fork's steering
column. Turn handles of both plunger assemblies
(#1172C-2) until blades (#1170-2) will clear crown race.
2. Place fork into CRP-1.
1
Notes:
It can be helpful to clamp the main tube of the CRP-1 in a Park
Tool Repair Stand. This solidly holds the CRP-1 and allows it
to be rotated, freeing both hands for easier operation.
Some fork and crown race combinations have very little ac-
cess for the CRP-1 to engage the crown race. Some cosmetic
scarring of the fork crown may occur on these forks.
Instructions for Replacing Blades
1. Remove four outer shell bolts (#1166-4).
2. Separate outer shell (#1167) from inner shell (#1168).
3. Remove old blades from inner shell and install new blades.
Loosen inner shell bolts (#1169-2) if necessary to allow
blades to slide easily.
4. Fit inner shell to outer shell.
5. Re-install four outer shell bolts.
CRP-1 Crown Race Puller
3. Keeping fork centered, tighten handles of both plunger
assemblies evenly until blades begin to wedge under
crown race. Continue tightening until blades are snug
under crown race.
4. Turn large handle until pressing disc inside main tube
begins pressing on top of the fork's steering column.
Continue turning large handle to fully remove crown race.
2
The blades of the CRP-1 are necessarily thin and will wear or
become damaged with use, particularly with extremely tight
fitting crown races. These are consumable parts and will need
to be periodically replaced (part #1170-2, two required).
