1. Application
The lanyard with shock absorber is part of personal protective gear for fall protection and should belong to the
user personally. It consists of a shock absorber, a Mittelmann safety rope S16 and a karabiner hook as end
fastener with which a body harness or anchoring device can be connected. The shock absorber FD2/16
compliant with EN 355 has the function of reducing the shock force that are generated during falls and affect
persons, the belt and the anchoring device.
Lanyards without shock absorbers may not be used in or as a harness system.
2. Use
The shock absorber is made of aluminum with a latch that opens inward. The latch is eqipped with an
additional manual lock (a knurled nut) to secure it against accidental opening. IN order to open the looked
hook, turn the knurled nut to the left. This will cause it to move down and release the covered area of the hook.
By pressing the latch inward, the hook can now be opened. One the shock absorber is hooked into the rear
suspension eyelet of the body harness, release the latch. The hook will close automatically. Securely lock by
turning the knurled nut to the right. The knurled nut will move and will cover a part of the hook. Open the
karabiner hook corresponding to its function and hook it into the anchoring device and secure it.
Attention: Lanyards may not be extended.
The total length of the lanyard including the karabiner hook (1.5 m or 2.0m) stated on the shrinking tube may
not be exceeded.
The attachment point must assure a minimum load capacity of 10 kN compliant with EN 795 and should be
above the user. Essential for safety is that the location of the lanyard or the attachment point and the type of
work both be selected so that free fall and the height of the fall are kept to a minimum.
The required lowest height under the user's feet in order to prevent impact against the ground or objects in a
fall must be- in the least favourable case (attachment point at foot level to the user)- be, if the lanyard has a
length of 1.0 m, at least 5.0m, at 1.5 m at least 5.50 m and if the lanyard has a length of 2.0m at least 6.50 m.
The lanyard with shock absorber must be attached such that the function of the shock absorber is not
compromised. In an arrester system, only a body harness compliant with EN361 may be used as a body
suspension system.
Attention:
Protect the lanyard from objects with sharp edges, welding sparks or other
destructive or damaging hazards.
Prior to first use the user must be familiarised with the function. The lanyard should only be used by trained
and/or knowledgeable personnel, or the user should be under the direct supervision of such a person. The
lanyard may only be used with the specified use conditions and for the specified intended use. Health related
restrictions such as heart or circulatory problems, regularly taking medicines, etc. can compromise the user's
safety when working aloft.
There must be a rescue plan on hand in which all emergencies that can occur during work are taken into
account.
If the lanyard is re-sold to another country, the re-seller must provide instructions for use, maintenance, regular
inspection and repair in the national language.
3. Meaning of the Labelling
