carefully on hand during use, so that you can refer to
them if necessary during your work, and also that you
keep a copy in a safe place, if possible.
Before attempting to work on the machine, unplug it
from the mains.
Watch out for any screws, nails or other items in the
part being worked on, which might cause considerable
damage to your machine and/or its tool.
Always keep the cable away from the moving parts of
your machine.
When you put your tool away, the motor should be off
and the moving parts completely stopped.
If you need to use an extension cable, the wires must
have a minimum section of 1mm˛ and the cable must
be fully unwound.
Wherever possible, use a device to block the part
being worked on in position, to prevent it from slipping.
If there is a jam, stop the machine immediately and
unplug it from the mains. Do not start work again until
you have removed the cause of the jam; if it is caused
by the machine itself, please send it to an approved
technical service.
When one of the accessories is attached to your
machine (e.g. chuck spanner) take great care to
ensure that it does not impede your freedom of
movement during work or come into accidental contact
with the tool.
Before you use an accessory, make sure that its
maximum rotation speed is compatible with the
machine performance.
Where possible, always use protective equipment
such as gloves, goggles, safety footwear, etc..
Electric tools must not be used by under 16 year olds.
Ensure that the tool does not come into accidental
contact with ducting or embedded electric cables.
Never force a machine which seems to be labouring or
losing power; there may be a technical problem, in
which case continuing work could damage the
machine irrevocably. Whenever the machine does not
work properly, call an approved agent immediately for
a check.
It may be advisable to tell the technical
agent or his representative why you are calling him.
This particularly applies in the case of intermittent
faults.
For safety and efficiency, only use original spares and
accessories.
USE
General Information
Drilling machines PB 1223 and PB 1232 are designed
for drilling metals, wood and synthetics.
Tapered end bits (tapers Nos. 2 or 3) are inserted
directly and driven by the lower taper of the spindle.
Use of cylindrical end bits: see list of available
accessories (optional) which would permit normal use.
Before fitting a tool (bit, Morse taper, chuck adapter,
etc.) in the machine spindle, the various parts which
will be in contact with it must be carefully cleaned and
degreased.
When a tool is to be fitted on the machine, it must be
locked in place by tapping the end lightly with a
leather, wood or synthetic hammer; in the case of a
chuck, first open it fully so that the hammer blow does
not fall on its jaws.
To extract any tool or accessory mounted directly on
the spindle, follow these instructions:
-
Unplug from the mains supply
-
Align the spindle opening opposite that of the
housing
-
Insert the taper follower into the opening in the
spindle and the housing until it crosses the machine
from side to side
-
Apply a hammer blow to the flat end of the taper
follower while holding the tool to be removed
!
the tool may fall and be severely damaged if it is
not secured during this operation
-
After putting down the tool which has just been
extracted, immediately remove the taper follower
-
Change tool or put the machine away until it is to be
used again
When drilling machines PB 1223 and PB 1232 are
used freehand, they must always be held firmly by the
handles in both hands!
!
The side handle must always be fully screwed
into the thread in the box provided for this
purpose !
Starting
The machine is started by pressing the switch
-
Starting is always carried out with no load
-
The switch lock button (on the side of the switch) is
used to hold it in the on position, for continuous
operation (use of magnetic foot MB 700, for
example)
-
To disconnect, press the switch again, which
releases the lock button.
!
When working freehand, never lock the switch
in the "ON" position; you must use the side
handle.

RECOMMENDATIONS ON USE

Pay very special attention when drilling into any
beams or into non-uniform materials which may have
invisible internal air-holes, as there is a risk of a violent
reaction which may cause serious injury or damage.
-
N.B.: As these machines are fitted with a friction
torque
limiter,
overloads will be prevented.
Mechanical speed selection: speed is changed only
after the total shutdown of the machine (the spindle
must not turn at all, even on "freewheel ") The
selection button arrow must be positioned on the
figure corresponding to the selected speed (1 or 2),
slow or fast respectively.
-
A resistance to engaging gear may be noted, this is
only caused by non-synchronism of the gear box
and cannot be considered as a fault. In this case,
just turn the spindle manually to engage the
selected speed.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

Unplug the tool from the socket
before performing any works on the
tool!
Tool requires no special maintenance, but after some
time you must control the parts that are submitted to
wear-and-tear under normal operating conditions. This
