IMPORTANT! READ THIS FIRST:
Rinsing alone does not clean a urinary appliance. Use Urolux urinary appliance cleanser &
#
deodorant ( 700216). Do not use boiling water, vinegar, bleaches or toilet bowl cleaners;
these chemicals will damage or distort plastic and latex parts.
BOTTOM DRAIN VALVE INSPECTION:
Twist the standard bottom drain valve ( 6004) 1½ turns counter-clockwise to open, Reverse
to close. TAKE CARE NOT OVER-TIGHTEN THE DRAIN VALVE WHEN CLOSING! If the valve
becomes difficult to open/close, remove the valve from the valve housing completely and
lubricate the black "O"-Ring with a smear of petroleum jelly—see Figure 2. Then reinsert.
LEG BAG CLEANING PROCEDURE:
STEP 1:
Close bottom drain valve ( 6004). Unscrew the standard top adaptor ( 6002) and
remove the red anti-reflux valve ( 6001)—see Figure 1.
STEP 2:
Then squeeze one-half ounce (15 ml.) of Urolux solution ( 700216) through the
valve housing into the bag followed by one cup (250 ml.) of warm water. Reinsert
the red anti-reflux valve into it's original position and replace the standard top
adaptor.
STEP 3:
Connect a rubber tube to the end of the standard bottom drain valve ( 6004)—If
you have product 6005 Straight-Thru Adaptor with thumb clamp, it may be
substituted for the rubber tube. While holding both ends of the latex leg bag in an
upright position as shown in Figure 3, open the standard bottom drain valve by
twisting it 1½ turns counter-clockwise; then connect the opposite end of the rubber
tube to the standard top adaptor as shown.
STEP 4:
Agitate contents of bag periodically over a 15 minute soaking; this will allow the
®
Urolux solution to circulate throughout the bag reaching all urine affected areas.
Regulate the strength of the Urolux solution and cleaning time to the condition of
the bag to be cleaned.
STEP 5:
After 15 minutes has expired, return the bag to an upright position, remove the
rubber tube from the top adaptor and close the bottom drain valve by twisting it
1½ turns clockwise. Dispose of used cleaning solution and flush contents of leg
bag thoroughly with water. Wash outside of bag with a mild hand soap and towel
dry. Dust outside of bag with talcum powder. When alternating bags, store
alternate bag in a dry, cool, dark place.
NOTE:
If urine crystals or calcium build-up remain after cleaning, use of the Small Parts
Cleansing Brush ( 7003) may be necessary to help dislodge them. This brush is
made with durable, white-nylon bristles and a malleable, twisted, stainless-steel
wire body. It may be shaped to fit almost any contour and is especially good for
removing uric crystal build-ups from tight corners, small holes and other hard to
reach areas within urinary and ostomy appliances—see Figure 3.
