Test Well Cleaning
Cleaning of the instrument test wells should be performed by qualified personnel only. Cleaning of
the test wells should be performed only when contamination of the instrument is suspected.
Contamination of the instrument may be non-DNA Sourced, or DNA Sourced.
Note: Do not clean test wells with fibrous swabs (e.g., Cotton, Rayon, Dacron, Calcium Alginate or Polyester
Swabs).
The cleaning protocol followed should be based on the source of the contamination as shown below:
 
non-DNA Contamination Cleaning Protocol
Note: Non-DNA cleaning should be performed when it is suspected that the optics are
compromised by foreign material. This may or may not be evidenced by a failing optical
verification.
1. Power off unit and disconnect from power source, allowing unit to cool to room temperature.
2. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a dry Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab.
3. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab moistened with 70%
Alcohol.
4. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a dry Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab.
DO NOT use oversaturated foam swabs for cleaning.
DNA Contamination Cleaning Protocol
Note: DNA cleaning should be performed when it is suspected that the instrument is
contaminated with DNA (e.g., amplicon or patient specimen).
1. Power off unit and disconnect from power source, allowing unit to cool to room temperature.
2. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a dry Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab.
3. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab moistened with 10%
Bleach Solution.
4. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a dry Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab.
5. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a Foam or Flocked Nylon Swab moistened with 70%
Alcohol.
6. Gently wipe heat block chamber with a dry Foam Swab.
DO NOT use oversaturated Foam Swabs for cleaning.
WARNING: Test Well cleaning should be performed only when the instrument is powered-off AND
disconnected from the power source. DO NOT use oversaturated swabs for cleaning. Instrument should
be fully cooled prior to cleaning Test Wells.
WARNING: Do not attempt to clean Alethia using compressed air.
NOTE: Optical Verification must be performed after cleaning Test Wells.
